Summary: Taking Charge of Your Fertility
Review: I loved this book. After trying 9 monthes to get pregnant with my husband a friend let me borrow this book. After one full month of taking my temp in the morning I am pregnant! This book teaches you lots of things about your body and helps you understand what your body does each month. I would recommend this book to anyone who is trying and having a hard time.

Summary: Good book to read before specialist visit
Review: I heard ranting and raving about this book after I had suffered my third unexplained consecutive miscarriage and then suffered from unexplained infertility. I decided to go pick it up and read through it. I was so engrossed that I finished it in one night. I think this is a perfect book for someone getting ready to start seeing a fertility specialist. It explains many things your specialist will most likely end up having you do during your infertility work-up such as checking your BBT, cervical mucus and cerivcal positions. It also talks about using ovulation prediction kits. I think it was helpful to go into my appointments armed with information from this book so I knew what to expect and what to ask at my appointments rather than being blasted with new info and caught off guard!

Summary: A Must Have If You're Trying To Conceive!
Review: It took my husband and I 6 years to become pregnant. I found out about this book around year 4 and was so amazed at all of the things I never knew about my body and my fertility. I can't say enough wonderful things about this book. I think every woman should own a copy whether she is trying to conceive or not. The information in it is for every woman to know. There were things I learned that I had never been told in a doctor's office, and many "mysteries" that were explained to me in plain, simple language. I copied and used the chart she provides in the book for several months, and because of the information they provided my OB/GYN was able to properly diagnose my "infertility" problem. I'm now the mother of a very precious baby boy!

Summary: Try This First!
Review: Unless you have some history of fertility problems, this book may save you tons of time & money!!! I wish I had this book a year earlier! I am in my mid 30's & when we decided to haev another child, nothing was wham/bang easy like in my early 20's! After 10 months of going w/out birth control (since most dr's won't even discuss fertility w/you until you go a WHOLE year w/out b/c!) I heard of this book & was pregnant in 3 weeks! All I needed was some education & proper guidance!!!

If you have no reason to suspect serious INfertility issues, what can you lose by giving this a try...considering I wasted about $100 over the course of the previous year on "Ovulation predictor kits" the $18 this book cost was a bargain!!! You, too, might find that you just need the information & assistance this valuable book provides!!!

p.s. I know SEVERAL women (besides myself) who all have been successful in the first couple months of this method!

Summary: This is a wonderful book for anyone trying to get pregnant!
Review: I don't normally write reviews here, but this is such a wonderful book, I felt compelled to do so. I was a biology major in college, and consider myself pretty well informed when it comes to issues about my body. Yet, it wasn't until after I bought and read this book in the spring of 2000 (when my husband & I began to try to conceive) that I realized how little I actually knew about my body's monthly cycle. Turns out, I did not ovulate on the "typical" day 14 and thus, had been timing our baby making efforts incorrectly. Only after I began temping did I realize that I ovulated on day 19 of my cycle. I am quite certain that without this book, my son would not have been conceived. We'd been trying on our own for 4 months with no luck; but the first month that I temped and looked for the other signs described in this book, we conceived our now one-year-old son. I plan to use this book again when its time to try for our second child.

I also wanted to comment on some of the "negative" reviews posted here. I agree that this book is not for those suffering from diagnosed infertility. But for anyone who believes they are healthy and is wanting to understand how to maximize their chances of getting pregnant, this book is an excellent resource. Furthermore, by practicing the methods described in this book, a woman will know sooner if she has any problems that require medical attention, because she will know if she's ovulating every month or suffering very early miscarriages.

Summary: A Wonderful Book for All Women!
Review: Right now, I am not trying to get pregnant or even avoid getting pregnant, but a friend gave me this book and I could not believe how much I have learned about my body! I think the information in this book should be taught to all teenage girls. This is a wonderful, well written and very acccesible book about a topic most women know way too little about.

Summary: This is a GREAT book!
Review: This book is long. It's so long that it might put off the reader at first. But it's packed with information. It might sound kind of hokey to "want to find out more about your body," but really, it's NEAT to be able to say, "I know I'm not pregnant because I haven't ovulated yet," or "My cycle averages 26 days but varies between 24 and 30 days," and really know what you're talking about.

I can't put in words how great it is to have reliable birth control that's completely up to us, our responsibility, with no side effects and no complications. When we decide to get pregnant, it will be equally wonderful to know exactly how and when this happens and how to go about achieving pregnancy.

One of the best things about this book is its balanced mode of delivery. It gives all the details, but it also summarizes them very well, so it's useful whether you want an in-depth explanation of fertility or a gloss of the major points. There are many charts for many situations, and an appendix full of information for women in special circumstances (e.g. breastfeeding, nearing menopause).

This book is such a great reference that I don't even NEED to go back to it again and again--I understood it the first time! It's invaluable!

Summary: Buy this Book for Your Sister, Daughter, Yourself!!
Review: I have never read a book that taught me so much about my body, and as a biology major, I thought I already knew it all! Like a lot of other women who have reviewed this book here, I also think it should be a standard text for all high school females. It is about so much more than fertility (or infertility!)---it's a wonderful owner's manual for any person with a menstural cycle.

Summary: Only for complete newbies and people with no problems!
Review: As another reviewer has written here, this book (as with most books out there) is completely useless if you have known fertility problems. I was diagnosed with PCOS this year, and, in the edition I read, PCOS isn't even mentioned as a possible reason for infertility problems. I understand that the updated version now mentions it, but says nothing helpful about it -- even though it is one of the leading causes of infertility in women (for more information on PCOS, see Dr. Thatcher's excellent sourcebook, "PCOS: The Hidden Epidemic").

I realize that not all books can "do it all," but before you buy, understand why this book is NOT called "Taking Charge of your INfertility!" This is a book for people who don't know their bodies, their cycles, and have not already sought medical assistance for infertility. Unfortunately, most people buying these kinds of books are already experiencing some fertility problems. If you've wanted to know how to chart your temperatures, this book does offer great how-tos and includes a useful appendix showing all kinds of charting patterns to help you identify what's going on with your cycle.

Summary: Wonderful Book-- A must-have for every woman!
Review: I figured this book would be like all the other books in this category, but I was pleasantly surprised. The author is very knowledgeable in ferility issues and writes in laymen's language. There are color photos to help with identifying various things about a woman's body. Very, very helpful in teaching us about ourselves in all our stages of life. It teaches a natural method of birth control, as well as pregnancy achievement and menopause. The book is complete with master fertilty charts to to use for copying. It's great investment!
