Rating: Summary: Great for Birth Control Review: I had to stop taking birth control pills after 7 years because they were causing my hormones to be very unbalanced. My naturopath rec. this book stating "Every 8th grade girl should be educated in this" and after reading it, she's right. This book goes over a woman's cycle, what exactly happens, when she's fertile, and when she's not (important for me). Every woman should know this information, I'm surprised it's not pushed more in our society.
Rating: Summary: This needs to be read by all women everywhere! Review: This is probably the most life changing book I've ever read. I wish in school as young girls we had known exactly what our body does at menstruation and ovulation. It's amazing. Not only can this be used for TTC - it can be used to learn how to better utilize birth control methods. Being aware of your basal body temp & cervical fluid you actually know when you are ovulating and when your period is due. Like clockwork! In addition, having your temps stay high instead of dipping down as your period approaches is indicative of pregnancy achievement. In my case this happened, (preg test to confirm) but unfortunately I wasn't able to hold the pregnancy and my temps started to go downwards -- making my period a couple of days late. If I hadn't have been charting, I would've never known I was pregnant, and just chalked it up to a late period. This book is good for all women - empowering them to learn more about their amazing bodies!
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Review: I have been lurking in many pregnancy message boards lately because my husband and I hope to become pregnant sometime soon, and I want to have a pretty good idea of what I'm in for. One book that seems to come up in conversation time and time again is this one. I just HAD to see what all the fuss was about. Am I glad I did! This book explains EVERYTHING in easy to understand language, but doesn't talk down to the reader. I found it VERY informative about my own body and felt a little embarrassed that I didn't know all of this already! This is a MUST READ for every woman, regardless of age. Whether you want to have a baby, don't want to have a baby, or just want a better understanding of your own body, this is the book you're looking for.
Rating: Summary: Worked like Clockwork Review: After studying this book and practicing implementing it's methods for one month, got pregnant the second month like clockwork. Gave my copy to a friend who had been trying to get pregnant for a year with no luck and she conceived withing two months of following the instructions. Fascinating to learn so much about your body and exciting to know the various signs monthly that reveal your most feritle times. There is even a theory that one could help one possibly determine the sex of the child they conceive based on timing of conception. By no means fool proof, but it lends a sense of control over a process most of us have resigned to surrender control over. Am going to buy another copy cause I hate to asl my friend to loan mine back to me.
Rating: Summary: What you didn't learn in health class... Review: I was stunned when I talked with my friends and found out just how collosally misinformed and miseduated most of them were about their bodies. Most women walk around their whole lives in complete ignorance of what is happening inside them! I was fortunate enough to find this book shortly before my marriage. I highly recommend this book because it gives the power back to the ones who have to deal with the complications of chemical birth control, miscarrying, infertility, menstration, etc etc. It's easy for a doctor to prescribe something on the fly and send a woman away from his office no more eduated than she was when she walked in. It's so much more beneficial for a woman to know her body and why and how it works the way it does. I believe that a woman who is more eduated about her body is able to work better with a doctor when things go wrong because they can accurately describe what is normal for them and what is different. This book is an exaustive tool that can help you in all stages of your life as a woman. I used it to conceive our baby daughter who is now 16 months old. I also used it effectively to prevent a new pregnancy. I have never ever used any form of birth control other than knowing what my body is doing. It works!
Rating: Summary: Education is Key to Success! Review: Toni Weschler's guide to the fertility awareness method is a wonderful resource for women on their reproductive functioning and health. I bought the book after trying to conceive for a few months and became familiar with some of the ideas and suggestions presented. I decided during this last cycle to keep a mental record of the fertility signs I observed, with the plan to write everything down in the next cycle. I thought it was so great to actually see that I ovulated by watching the rise of my basal temperature. I was also particulary amazed that my doctor told me I could only conceive exactly 14 days into my cycle. Well, the best part is that I followed the book's advice not the doctor's and... the basal temp has not receded. We are now expecting our first!! I believe this is a must-read for all couples who are trying, especially prior to attempting alternate medical means of conceiving.
Rating: Summary: A must-read for every woman! Review: Every woman should read this book; whether trying to conceive or not. The author teaches you so much about what's going on in your body during each cycle. My husband & I tried to conceive for 2 cycles before I bought this book. Through reading the book, learning my fertility signs and charting, we're now pregnant! So excited and thankful! This is an informative book for women. A great read!
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: Incrediblibly useful information in easy to understand language.
Rating: Summary: This Book Changed My Life Review: I ordered this book in Jan. of 2001 and read it cover to cover when it arrived. I found many interesting facts that I was shocked that I did not learn during my formal education. I highlighted and reread a number of passages. I then felt comfortable enough to use the fertility cycle chart to prevent conception. When my husband and I decided we were ready for parenthood, I knew when I could conceive and did conceive during the first cycle that we tried. Our daughter is almost ten months old. I recommend it to all women-we should know how our bodies work and not have to put all of our faith in doctors.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, straight-forward read on human fertility Review: I greatly recommend this book to ANYONE who would like to get pregnant and is having trouble. Toni describes in simple, easy-to-understand language 3 easy and natural ways a woman can track her fertility. Why run off to fertility specialists when perhaps all that is missing is a bit of chicken egg-white? This book could save you lots of pain, effort, and dollars. If you're not getting pregnant and want to, read this book first, chart your temperature for several months (I would try 4 to 6), and if you are still not getting pregnant talk to the medical experts. Good luck!
