Summary: The first major contribution since Seven Habits
Review: There are two books I've read in the past twenty years that I believe reset the agenda for personal development. The first was Seven Habits of Highly Effective People which took us out of quick fix and into the root source of effectiveness which is character. The second is this book. Loehr and Schwartz have focused my attention on the root source of results in life: energy. They engagingly, clearly and helpfully articulate the fallacy of focusing on time management when the true strength of soul and capacity to create results in life is not how much time we have (a fixed quantity you can do nothing about) but the energy you develop and make choices to apply. I'm grateful to have found this book early rather than waiting for its powerful message to make a similar difference in my life to the other of these two seminal books.

Summary: Enlightening Information! Horrible format (e-book)!
Review: After reading just the first couple chapters, I found Loehr and Schwartz to be full of wonderful knowledge. The reading alone caused my energy to increase. I chose the e-book format. It stinks! The publisher has done a great disservice top readers while trying to protect their rights by not allowing printing, PDA viewing or lending the book to others. It's a good thing the book is so good. In fact, I probably would give it five star if the publisher hadn't done e-book readers so many disservices...

Summary: Not so much for moms and the rest of us
Review: Most reviewers will be men as opposed to Stephen Covey's 7 Habits where many women and child care providers can relate better. I have worked inside large companies and small ones with extensive sales training. I see this as a book for people who can pick up company training programs, grasp opportunities and run with them on their own. But, what about the rest of us who have been out of the business loop? I am now a mom who stays at home with my children by choice and would love to have nonprofessional mumbo jumbo for energy applications. Out of the work force for several years and a different path chosen makes
this book not such a good read for moms (who stay home or who work outside) and families. It leaves out anyone who has not
been chosen as one of the worthy people to embrace "company
political training." The authors and the publisher have left millions out - so don't say it's for everyone. It's not. For moms and anyone in the family/kid role who are in great need of much "energy" to prevent Mommy Melt Down or even Life Melt Down, my first love is still Stephen Covey, 7 Habits, and Jodie Lynn's, Mommy-CEO (Constantly Evaluating Others) 5 Golden Rules. Here are two books almost everyone can understand and get on with positive energy and organization while keeping sanity. Another favorite specifically for parents would be Best Friends Worst Enemies, by Michael Thompson. The world would benefit in personal and family relationships, and embrace life building skills in the coorporate world too, from reading these books.

Summary: These concepts work
Review: I had the opportunity to attend the Corporate Athlete training at LGE's facility in Orlando. I've not been the same since. While I had already discovered much of what they teach with regards to the importance of oscillation in the physical realm, I had much to learn of the principle in the other realms. I have also discovered rituals to help me take control of my negative, angry and fearful thoughts. I've been amazed at how much energy these negative thoughts consume. I'm a true believer that our most precious resource is our energy, and that managing it is more important than managing our time. This book will give you tools to effectively manage your energy.

Summary: clear insights on personal management and high performance
Review: A superb book, highly useful. Would recommend to all working adults and managers. Equally illuminating and inspiring is Emerson Lee's Time-Honored Wisdoms On Wealth creation, which also contains the pearls and gems of high performance.

Summary: Make your energy and productivity skyrocket!
Review: As an author, my work requires focus and concentration, and in the especially intense period right before a deadline, I often found myself working 12 or more hours a day, hardly stopping to eat lunch and/or dinner. (Despite the fact that I write books about gastronomy, while on deadline meals too often meant grabbing whatever was fast and easy.) The ideas in THE POWER OF FULL ENGAGEMENT, to which I was previously exposed through attending programs led by author Tony Schwartz, changed my habits and productivity radically. Instead of the aforementioned "marathon" approach, I now break my workday into 90-minute "sprints," punctuated by 15-minute breaks which serve to re-energize and re-vitalize my efforts. Instead of feeling guilty for going for my daily run in Central Park, I now see it as "recovery" time that is not only a mini-vacation but vital to my overall productivity. Since researching and writing about food definitely stimulates the appetite, instead of skipping meals I now eat all day -- but just five small meals a day, which has actually helped me lose weight and keeps my energy up. And instead of working through the weekend, I now "force" myself to take at least one day off so that I can return to my work refreshed and renewed.

The results, for me, have been astounding -- both in terms of what I have been able to accomplish, and how I feel. My co-author and I recently finished not one but two books, both of which will be coming out in October 2003. And learning to tap new sources of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energy has been a great positive charge in my life.

I can't recommend THE POWER OF FULL ENGAGEMENT more highly to anyone who wants to improve the quality of their professional and personal lives.

Summary: A must read!
Review: As a person who coaches executives and others to achieve high performance, I find Loehr and Schwartz's approach both revolutionary and tremendously useful. This book gets us to focus on how we manage and optimize our energy and provides a step by step process to discover what values and motivators are most important to us. The authors then show how to use that knowlegde to improve our performance in all spheres of our lives. Loehr and Schwartz also underscore the importance of recovery and it is a paradigm shift well worth making. Their thinking helps all of us who want to thrive in the chaos and challenge of our daily lives.

Summary: What really matters
Review: This book can truely transform your life. Schwartz and Loehr have done some amazing research and it all makes sense. I have spent the better part of my adult life in therapists offices and I can tell you that these guys have come up with a system that can truly get you where you want to go emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. This book is a must read for thoughtful people who are trying to engage their lives.
