Summary: Who decides what you become?
Review: Covey's hugely successful book destroys the outdated viewpoint that your genes and your environment largely determine your life. Covey shows how thinking like this can become a self-fulfilling prosphecy whereas have faith in your own ability is a far surer way of gaining success. One can rescript one's life by firstly discovering what the deepest values we have are and then learning to act in line with these values. Covey shows that acting in line with your principles can make you strong and help you to develop a successful life. This book had a deep impact on my way of thinking.

Summary: Great Read -- Better to Read Again
Review: This book's high sales ranking for so many years speaks to both its popularity and value. I just completed a re-read after having first read it some five years ago and found it a worthwhile experience. I think it had more meaning with this reading, so I strongly suggest that people read it several times.

At the same time, however, I also read a fresh new book entitled "Winning Ways," by Dick Lyles. I found that it complements "7 Habits" remarkably well - especially Covey's habit #4, which is to think win-win, and habit #6, which is to synergize. Lyles picks up where Covey leaves off in the area of interpersonal leadership. Given the importance of being able to work well with others in organizations that are becoming increasingly more networked, I think Covey's habits #4 and #6, along with "Winning Ways" should be mandatory reading for everyone in the workforce.

Summary: A rare book that can change your life
Review: I feel sorry for those who hated this book and complained about the simplicity. That is the beauty of this book, it reminds us all of things we allready know. In this busy world we tend to forget what is truely important- Covey brings it all back to us. If everyone lived the 7 Habits this would truely be a wonderful world to live in. Don't let any of the cynics scare you away- it should be on the top of everyones reading list.

Summary: It is a tough book
Review: This is a master piece. This book doesn't teach you quick fix techniques to get ahead in life. You have to pay the price to practise the principle based habits Stephen Covey teaches. This book is superior compared to most of the other self help books in the market. Covey explains these habits in a cut throat manner. A must read for everyone.

Summary: Excellent book for everyone!
Review: I had bought this book simply becoz of its fame...little did i know it was going to lead me into a world of self awareness & personal change towards the direction of effective living. It tells one exactly how one can start living rather than just existing & be successful in ones own mission in life.I am already looking forward to more books from this author. There might be times when u feel u have got the point & need to skip a para or more.....(i felt that! )...if u do so than u will really enjoy it thoroughly. If not, there r chances (very few) that u might find it a little boring towards the end. But all in all "pl read this one ". u won't regret it, ever !

Summary: This Book Is Nonsense
Review: My boss requires us to take a 2-week course on this book as part of the job. I told him I thought the book was over generalized nonsense. The problem is it's all so obvious, anybody with a brain already knows what is printed in this book. The difference between effective and ineffective people is that effective people find meaning in what they are doing, or possibly they have a naive and overly optimistic outlook on what they are doing. You get the feeling that the author doesn't have a brain either and just putts allot of well meaning advice that has been rehashed for the last 50 years in other self-help books. Besides there is NO PROOF what so ever that this book helps anybody. In fact I made a bet with my boss. I told him if I could guess at least 5 out of the 7 habits without having read or looked at the book; I wouldn't have to go to the two-week course. I guessed 5 of them. What does this say about the author or his book? There is nothing new here. Don't waste your money. If you do the only person you are fooling is yourself.

Summary: Seven Habits?
Review: Actually, I was (and I'm sure you will be too) surprised when I found upon reading Covey's self-help classic, that there are embedded within his highly helpful rhetorical flourishes actually EIGHT habits for "highly effective people". By applying Marshall Mcluhan's elegant and axiomatic adage "the medium is the message" I was able to discover the EIGHTH habit, which is to write self-help books and make a lot of money from them.

Summary: Bilge for Losers
Review: Pages and pages of tedious psychobable, with no scientific evidence except the inevitable anecdotes.

The fact that 5,000,000 people bought and at least partially read this book makes one laugh or cry, depending on how highly effective is your sense of humour...

Summary: "Suspend Your Disbelief and Just Do It!
Review: A caution: avoid getting hooked on the simplicity and the time-honored principles Covey writes about. So what if you know the principles. What good are they if you don't have them packaged in a way that you will use them? That's what I found valuable about Covey's "Seven Habits." Covey took a bunch of old rules and packaged them in a new way, into a system that people could understand and really use.

Covey found a way to motivate me to organize my life in a way that enabled me to really do it. He allowed me to let the medicine go down. When I would start to slock off, I would listen to the tapes to sharpen my saw. Covey gives us the battle plan and the marching orders: Proact, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win/Win, Seek First to Understand, Synergize, Sharpen the Saw. I have these pasted on my office wall after all these years.

Summary: Hand it to Covey--And A Recommendation
Review: The Seven Habits of... does indeed show you how to be more effective. What I like about the book is that Covey isn't just a cut-throat, success-at-all costs adviser. Embedded within his "system" of effectiveness is the recognition of the importance of quality of life; while your professional bottom-line is likely to improve if you follow his advice, that's not the whole point. Another book I recently finished and loved, which gives practical advice with a strong undercurrent of wisdom is The Mindful Money Guide. It addresses all the various aspects of one's financial life and can help improve your fiscal bottom-line, but without losing your soul. It's also fun to read.
