Rating: Summary: A DEFINITE MUST-READ !! Review: I read this book years ago, when a friend recommended it to me. I thought to myself, "Oh no, this is going to be one of those books with a great message, but in terms that are so slow and boring, I'll never make it through!". I was only half right - it has a great message. But, the rest of my impression was so far off! This book is interesting, enlightening, and well written. It talks about values and ideas that we all need and want in our lives, and how to obtain them. I have recommended this book to other friends, and still hold my own copy today.
Rating: Summary: Sould be applied to your principles of life. Review: I read this books years ago in a library. When I first read it, my menatlity was this book would never work for me. Well, back then I was in a depressive state of mind. Years later someone gave this book as a gift. I thought it was a joke!! I reread this book again one night it all made sense to me. I only recommended this book to those who are willing to look for a change in thier life. I wouldn't recommended these book to those who are set in thier ways. I feel life is an on going changing process, which by the way, this is one of the books that had help me realize that!
Rating: Summary: I learned so much from this book Review: I learned how to communicate when disagreeing. Rather than to yell and blow things out pf porportion. I learned to take the edge off of an argument. When I first tried it my husband had a look that said "What just happened? Did I win or loose?" I was laughing at him on the inside. It worked and I use his techniqies on the job as well. I have become a better problem solver. More effective if you will.
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE! Review: I thought this book was for business people, so when I was told that I should read it I hesitated and asked, "Why?" Afterall, I am an Elementary Education Major. Well, it turns out that this book is for everyone. It really helps you see what type of person you are, and why certain relationships you have with people are the way they are, but it also tells you how to change them if you are not happy with them. This book has helped me to become a better daughter, friend, girlfriend, sister, and student. I recommend this book to anyone who is not 100% satisfied with their life, and the relationships in it, regardless if they are personal or business.
Rating: Summary: A strong guide to business and personal self-help. Review: The book walks the reader through the seven habits and provides practical concrete examples for how they can be applied in the everyday life of the reader. There were habits that I saw could be put into use immediately in my own life as well as other aspects that seemed like good ways to help think about future directions. Covey roots his philosophy of change in building habits that endure and suggests grounding those habits in sustainable personal integrity. Covey writes with confidence and uses a clear, readable style. Recommend.

Rating: Summary: Become a Quadrant III person and stay on course Review: One effective habit not listed in Stephen Covey's book is that of extracting just what you need from a book without wasting time. Covey's perennial best-seller is certainly worth checking out, if you are one of the holdouts. Unless you have ample time, however, rather than reading it cover to cover and absorbing the numerous stories and illustrations, skim it strategically for the main points. Covey surely has a valid point in arguing that organizational effectiveness (the focus of the sequel) depends on personal effectiveness. His 7 habits span both "personal victory" and "public victory". A complete reading of the book may leave you impatient with numerous illustrations, annoyed at some sermonizing, and perhaps puzzled by the absence of real people to embody the habits. The 7 habits will seem obvious enough to many readers, though Covey's explication does bring them into focus and conveys their importance.
The 7 habits are: Be Proactive (personal vision); Begin with the End in Mind (personal leadership); Put First Things First (personal management); Think Win/Win (interpersonal leadership); Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood (empathic communication); Synergize (create renewal) - the fuzziest of the seven; and Sharpen the Saw (balanced self-renewal). Which of these you find most useful will depend on your own strengths and weaknesses, though a case could be made for viewing Habit #3, Put First Things First, as the essence of the book. This focuses your thinking on dividing up tasks across a four-quadrant space whose axes are Importance and Urgency. It's all too easy for us as individuals and as leaders to put almost all our time and energy into tasks that are Urgent and sometimes Important. Covey rightly emphasizes the healthy approach of scheduling regular, defended time for activities that are Important but not (yet) Urgent. These activities, what Covey calls Quadrant Three activities, tie in to each of your self-chosen roles (for instance, Strategist, Manager, Leader, Mentor, Spouse, Parent) to form the basic shape of your day and week. You could substitute other vital habits derived from your own experience or from books such as Patrick Lencioni's works while applying Covey's basic framework. In the end, of course, the value of a book like this can be realized not by reading only but by executing the wisdom.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing! Review: ... It's a Turkey of a book consisting mostly of stuffing with very little meat. It's a poorly done rewrite of Napoleon Hills "Think and Grow Rich", with a little borrowed from other sources. It contains a political message and agenda, and fails to give proper credit to the authors that this information was stolen from. It contains way too many words, a lot of useless chatter, with a little bit of somewhat useful information thrown in. He uses a few abbreviations such as PC/C. Better check your PC/C. Don't forget about your PC/C, and not only that, sharpen your saw and synerize. How stupid! And while you're at it, put first things first, and imagine yourself dead and people coming to your funeral, and now think backwards, and how do you want your funeral to take place, and while you are at it write yourself a mission statement. ...I'm not making this stuff up, it comes directly from the book!

It helps you define what is important to you, and from there how to be effective & efficient in dealing with everyday life challenges. It has specific exmaples of the author's own personal & professional life (challenges i.e.). Some of the concepts described in the book are taken from ancient philosophers like Plato, and Ghandi. After graduating college in Dec 2000, I found myself lost. I was trying to figure out what I want to do with my life.
