Rating: Summary: One of the most important books you'll ever read Review: In my opinion, this book is the foundation on which a successful and fulfilling life can be built. In it, the author Stephen R. Covey lays the groundwork for how to approach your life on which all subsequent ideas can build. I have been reading this book, on and off, for about four years. I have not finished it yet. It is not a very thick volume, but one cannot simply read through it like any other book. The 7 Habits is extremely engaging and requires a lot of work in order to gain the most from it. It is not just about reading about the concepts - they are easy to grasp and may even seem obvious. The challenging part is actually implementing them and living the seven habits in your everyday life.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: I truly enjoyed this book and completely endorse much of the material that can be found inside. This book encouraged me to write my first book WADING THROUGH THE CRAP: HOW TO START LIVING THE SUCCESSFUL LIFE YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Powerful Impact! Review: A person seeking to either get priorites straight or to keep them straight will greatly benefit from the advice presented in this easy to read book. Dr. Covey is a talented communicator who inspires people to want to do the right things in the right order. His explanation of the win/win philosophy enables one to see that we are dependent on each other. As we connect with one another in mutually beneficial ways everyone's lot is improved. The first of his seven habits is to be proactive, which is a logical starting point. Covey sells us on the idea of taking ownership of our lives. The second point follows logically from that as he tells us to begin with the end in mind. That is an epiphany to some people in that they have the action step in place, but are too occupied to consider the route being taken. Covey categories his seven habits into private, then public victories. This underscores his win/win theme. A person contributes to others as he has something of value to contribute, that is attained in the private arena. As one works internally, there is substance to offer to other people. This book has helped many people in many nations. I know that first hand. I was teaching a seminar in Lebanon and quoted Covey. I asked if they had heard of him and a significant number of hands were raised. Later, as I toured the offices I saw Covey posters with quotes from him throughout the facility.
Rating: Summary: A classic for a reason. Review: Great look into the minds of those of us who excel despite the trade or profession. Now if I can just follow some of it. :)

Rating: Summary: Amongst the top 3 books of its genre! Review: This book is a cut above the positive thinking books published over the past three decades. The concepts are presented in a clear, concise manner and are valuable for individuals and organizations. The individual learns to be proactive, set goals, manage goal achievement and get along with others. I also highly recommend a book that Covey recommends, Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self, to empower individuals and organizations to think and function at their peak. Optimal Thinking is the mental basis of peak performance. Additionally, I recommend Emotional Intelligence because it explains why we should respect emotions in our tough daily undertakings.
Rating: Summary: Bored nearly to tears Review: I listened to this book on my drives to and from work and found myself lulled into a state of bored depression. I would not recommend buying this as a book on CD. If you really feel it necessary, read the actual book, but make sure that you have a bed or couch nearby.I discussed this book with several co-workers, and they also had the same experience. I'm not sure if there is much to gain by reading this.
Rating: Summary: The operative word is effectiveness Review: Remember, this book is called the 7 habits of "Highly Effective" people. There are any number of books that can get you all psyched up, but how many make you more effective? And don't confuse effectiveness with efficiency. Efficiency produces only motion; effectiveness produces results. The positive feelings and rewards associated with real accomplishments are produced by learning to become "highly effective" instead of more efficient. Effectiveness is the science of proper planning ordered with priorities. Use Dr. Covey's excellent work to make you "highly effective" and reach all of your goals!
