Rating: Summary: a must for historical or mystery writers!! Review: This book is a super reference book for writers. Gives you a short history of poisons, then moves in the classic aka Agatha Christie style poisons. Next we get into the what's on hand style of poisons i.e. household stuff. Plant poisons, the dead mushrooms etc. They cover movie poisons such as spiders and snakes, medical oops-es, what's in the garden pesticides. Even Street Drugs and a few hints on do-it-yourself-versions. They covered the methods, the forms, the symptoms, and even the time that is takes and just how successful (toxicity rating)....anything a writer needs to know....no no no don't touch that mushroom!Super reference work and highly recommended
Rating: Summary: Great first source Review: This is a fantastic book for writers who need information on poison. However, unlike the other books in the Howdunnit Series, this one is stricktly a reference book, and you'll find it impossible to read it cover to cover. Every poison is covered, and there is even a section titled 'Create Your Own Poison'. Unless you write a crime book title '2000 ways to poison someone', this book will do the job nicely. You might need to fine-tune your research on the Internet.

Rating: Summary: Poisonously good Review: Whether your need is as a writer, looking for the perfect way to kill off your characters, or whether you just wondered what if..., Deadly Doses is a gold mine of information on poisons, their tixicity, the effects, the reaction time, the symptoms, the antidotes. It covers everything from animal bites to household goods. My favorite was the fiddle back spider. Naturally, the female is more deadly than the male!
