Summary: Good book "If you have some experience with recording"
Review: I bought this book for a class and for refrence at home for a setup I had just put together. I was a beginner when i had bought it and had little knowledge on the concepts of decibels, MIDI, signal flow, or the physics of sound,(which are some of the topics covered in this book).
After reading everything in the book more than once, I had no clue on what I had red until I bought a book called Home Recording Power by Ben Milstead.
Scot Wilkinson had written this book for those who are familiar with recording and wanted an idea or better understanding of how their equipment works the way it does. This book has very little tips or techniques on the equipment it covers. Its not a how to book.
So unless you have some form of a recording setup and are familar with your equipment and have done some projects already, dont buy this book, cause you wont understand very much.

Summary: Do I have the patience to want to sit down with this??
Review: No-but, hey, to each his own. Right? Honestly, a very comprehensive book(much like a high-school science text book...outstanding). All meat with no potatoes. If you're studying to go into the field of engineering as a living or are an electronics genius, this review is sheer blaspheme. If you want to make good music on your home studio, get The Musician's Guide to Home Recording and a good dose of spirit- then press record. Peace.

Summary: A great book for starting your own home studio!!
Review: This book gives a general overview of what you have to keep in mind when you want to start your own home studio. It describes theoretical concepts like acoustics as well as the more practical stuff like setting up proper electrical wiring. It also gives a clear overview of the different types of audio equipment you can encounter in your search for the perfect studio. The book is well structured and there are some ironic touches added as well.
