Summary: Open your eyes to reality
Review: Through his intense research and modern day muck-raking, Schlosser exposes the food industry's dirty secrets. Open this book, and open your eyes. Ask yourself what you have been eating.

Summary: Buy it, read it, live it!
Review: "Fast Food Nation" is a well researched, well documented, well written book on the inside workings of the Fast Food Industry, the Beef Industry, and lack of Government Regulation for both. The book will shock and disgust you and hopefully motivate you into taking action. Action should be taken not solely for the low quality and pathogen infested food, but for the poor working conditions and lack of concern for workers at both the fast food restaurants AND the beef slaughterhouses. Sympathy should also be given to the ranchers and farmers forced off their lands and out of work by the beef industry and fast food style of business. And what about the current explosion of obesity in this country? Fast food is the source of fatness and health problems. Read this book, consider the facts, educate yourself about the atrocities running rampant in our "perfect" society, and make changes in your life style.

Summary: Fascinating look at a disturbing industry
Review: Okay, where to start? This book does a good job of taking you from the birth of the entire fast food industry in sunny CA all the way to where it stands to today. That's really just the appetizer though. It really kicks in when Schlosser delves into the meat packing side of the business. Be prepared to never touch ground beef again. I'm serious, you will be shocked and appalled. So take that as a word of warning. If you like a Whopper 2 or 3 times a week, like I used to, this is not the book for you. That being said you will be an enlightened consumer after reading this and it will help you make better decisions about your own diet, as well as your families. Towards the end of the book Schlosser does get on a little bit of an anti Republican, anti corp. America, well anti just about everything rant. Still on the whole I would recommend this book to anyone interested in finding out how we really feed our Fast Food Nation.

Summary: What an awesome book!!
Review: What a great book!!! I was fascinated and grossed out, all at the same time. The background on the fast food industry was very enlightening, from the description of the working conditions to the corporate politics. Most of all, I was FRIGHTENED by how little the US government is doing to protect us. It is UNIMAGINABLE that the USDA has no authority to initiate a food recall. Instead, we are suppossed to trust corporate scum bags who only want to make money - damn everything else. I am terrified thinking about what it is going to take to get the government to act. Some type of untold mass illness? Who knows. Just look what a GREAT job industry has done with self regulation in dealing with accounting, the airlines, banks, S&L's, energy trading, telecom, etc. Is the meat industry next?

Highly recommended!!!!

Summary: Disturbing, muckraking, perceptive & above all, thoughtful!
Review: Okay, I was pretty annoyed when I received the hardcover edition of this book from Amazon, rather than the trade paperback version. My mind was going round and round about the additional expense...

It really didn't matter after all. In fact, I have forgotten how much extra it cost me. Because...

...Fast Food Nation was so well written, the circumstances were so well drawn, and so well portrayed that I found myself lost in the stories.

Any expense is worth delaying a future as seen in Fast Food Nation. Healthy wishes to all.

Summary: four months and counting without a fast food burger
Review: after reading this excellent book. Well documented, well written. I will not patronize McDonalds again. In-and-Out will be the only fast food burger I'll eat, and that will only be when I'm on the road and there are no other healthier options.

Summary: It will BLOW your mind
Review: A revelating book by Schlosser that will open your eyes (and shut your mouth) to the 'dark side' of American fast food that is rarely shown the light of day. An easy read that will keep you hooked and not able to put it down! I would highly recommend this book!

Summary: Fast Food Nation Is Unbelievable!
Review: This book is mesmerizing. I thought I knew about the fast food industry until I read this book. It awakens the mind to a world hidden by our culture. I 110% recommend this book. Wheather your Demorcrat or Republican, white or black, gay or straight, male or female, vegetarian or not, this book will open your mind to a different realm of our society. Read it for yourself. You'll never be able to put it down.

Summary: Well researched, non-alarmist
Review: If you care about what you eat and how our food supply is maintained in terms of the cost to workers, consumers, animals and the environment, this book is a must-read. The author has done his homework and his writing is superb. He tells you lots of things that you know vaguely but he puts a point on them for you.

This is a great read for anyone, but it would be really great for high school kids. They have the energy to really care about things and they are on the cusp of making life choices that will affect their fellow citizens, the earth's health and the economy.

Summary: Fast Food Nation
Review: This is a increadable book that should serve as a wake up call to what the corporate world is doing to us in order to make a buck. They have dumbed us down, and most people think they are doing us a favor, by giving us food we don't have to prepare our selves fairly quickly and inexpensively. They have convinced you to give them your good hard earned money for food that is unsafe and unhealthy. READ THIS and wake up.
