Summary: An informative book that is not too tedious
Review: Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser, is a book that is important for Americans to read. It reveals the truth about what we really eat when we order a 39 cent cheeseburger with fries, as well as the massive effect that fast food has on our culture and our economy that most people do not even realize. It is very informative, and contains information that I'm glad to know, but it is not too difficult to read and flows really well. Some of the information is unnecessary and makes the book a little longer than it actually needs to be, and some other information is really a little more than I'd like to know (but it's still probably a good thing that I do know it now), but on the whole I found the book to be very good, and a more interesting, easier read than most nonfiction. I'll never look at a hamburger the same way again.

Summary: Behind the Curtains
Review: The saying goes that everyone knows what they don't know can't hurt them. Although, after reading Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser one can't help but be completely disgusted by their newly acquired knowledge. This book is definitely an informative portrayal of a in-depth view behind the scenes of the huge growing fast food chains. It discusses everything one could possibly want to know from how chains were started, from meat packaging, to the factories which fuel the chains. This definitely an important book that everyone should read.

If you are searching for the truth behind fast food quality search no further. It reveals the governments lack of inspection and regulation within a dominating industry. One can see the dedication behind Eric Schlosser's writing and desire to convey fast food in a whole new light. One can't help but feel compassion for those who have no other choice than to be a part of such unjust industries. The most disturbing part of the book was about the meatpacking industry factories and all those who were hurt on the job. Schlosser, ultimately expresses to the reader after all the astonishing facts that there needs to be change in how fast food is dominating American society.

Summary: The ReALITY
Review: Fast Food started out by just being a few hot dog and hamburger stands that worked hard finding costumers, into what is now one of the hugest aspects of our society. Fast Food is served from everywhere to restaurants, zoos, stadiums, schools, stores, etc. The book starts off by giving a lot of background information on America and how during the early 1900's the population of America grew, so more cars were being used and that led to a popular demand for drive-thru's. The first fast food restaurant was McDonald's, which developed from two brothers with an idea to make money. The later chains, derived from people basically copying the fast food idea. As the process of the food industry became familiar to the owners of McDonald's they started to find ways to make the food faster and cheaper, so they formed an assembly line of employees, and started using frozen products.
This book details the truth behind fast food chains and how it has affected Americans and our economy. This book brings to its reader's attention the terrible fact that fast food chains underpay their workers, and don't pay them for overtime, and they have very poor working conditions. It also brings about the point that the start of fast food has greatly influenced poor health and obesity among many Americans today. Not only does this book talk about American's eating habits, but it also touches on the meat processing, agriculture, and labor health and safety. The food that is made at these places has also gradually diminished into becoming what costs them the least, and what uses less people to make it. They even added natural and artificial flavors to their meat and fries! These flavors are filled with unhealthy chemicals. At first these fast food chains were also filled with teenagers but they began to change things in order to attract families, and children so they begun making kids meals.
I think the message Schlosser wanted his readers to see was what actually goes on behind the happy picture of "family" fast food places like McDonalds. I think the reason that his book is so powerful and effective is that he actually went around to interviewing real people and visiting real factories in order to get a more accurate portrayal of the meat processing. He is also trying to bring awareness to the fact that employees of these places are treated poorly in hopes to possibly making it clear that something needs to be done about this. He notes the benefits of fast food being that it provides fast inexpensive food and a lot of people work, but still notes that this could be done in a better manner where there weren't health consequences for the people buying it.

Summary: Fast Food Nation Review
Review: Fast Food Nation is a fairly fast paced book in which Eric Schlosser depicts the nature of the fast food industry. The book goes into the history of fast food, and how it has effected not only the American economy but other countries as well. It shows the harsh treatment of workers, as they are given no benefits and have bad working conditions as well as little pay. In addition the book explains the process of the meat from when the cows are killed to when it is served. The conditions in which the meat is packaged and clean would discourage any reader from eating at most fast food restaurants, unless of course it is In-N-Out (which is only in a few states). Fast Food Nation is definitely a worthwhile read, that will change your view of the fast food industry.

Summary: The Truth about Fast Foods
Review: Fast Food Nation, is divided into two main parts: first the history of fast food industry in the united states, from the car-addicted Californian youth to the world mass consumption market.
Then Eric Schlosser takes a deep look at what lies behind Ronald's smiley face.
Covering a huge amount of aspects (society, environment, health) these pages will frighten you.
We learn how the fast-food industry killed independent restoration businesses using public funds for its own profit. How it turned lovely landscapes into dark factories, infecting the land and minds with dangerous gases, turning quiet towns into hazardous cities.
We learn how faceless gigantic corporations can ignore the law, prohibit safety inspections from the meat factories that supplies food to schools. How illegal immigrate workers are treated without any dignity, tied to their companies by abusive contracts, like modern slaves.
We learn how the cattle is fed with it's own remains and dead animals (goats, sheep, chicken, pork's, dogs, cats).
We learn how capitalism can create liars.

Maybe the most horrible part of this study: untitled "What's in the meat", the chapter begins with a picture of a 6 year old boy smiling. This kid died from an infection caused by a hamburger, contaminated by the E. coli bacteria. Her mother saw him lose reason while his organs liquefied and his brain melted, doctors tried to drill holes in his head to loosen pressure. He died a horrible death.

Fast Food nation is a book that open's all the peoples eyes, You find out what your really eating.

Summary: Fast Food Nation
Review: I really liked this book and how it was structured. Schlosser opened with the beginning of fast food and progressed to the present time. He sited specific examples and it was interesting to hear him site information first hand, since he visited the factories that prepared the food. This book was very informative about the suspicious of the ingredients put in fast food products. I think that if enough people read this book, they will try to stray away from eating fast food because of all the alarming facts.

Summary: Fast Food Nation Over the American Nation
Review: Fast Food Nation takes readers on a journey back in time. It gives readers an idea of how the fast food industry started in America, and why it was so sucessful. As cities in Southern California sprawled out rapidly, automobiles became highly used, causing quick food stops on the side of the road to be very convenient. Fast Food restaurants--if you can call them restaurants--became very popular. Schlosser's journey, as he describes the fast food industry, is amazing. Not only is it eye opening, but he has researched thoroughly and written fantastically!

Summary: Fast Food Nation, a stomach turner
Review: Fast Food Nation is a book that opens your eyes to harm of the food being put in your mouth. As an avid fast food eater, I now turn my back on McDonalds and other fast food chains. Not only do you learn about how the food is made, but meet interesting Fast Food pioneers, you learn their story and how they have come to be the fast food bilionaires of today. As disturbing as this book is you can't help but keep it glued to your eyes, due to either disgust or curiosity, maybe a little of both. I think that every person who has eaten a hamburger should read this book, you should know where you $3.50 is going to, and how much harm it's doing not only to yourslef but to millions out there who are effected by the Fast Food industry.

Summary: Rude Awakening in the Kitchen
Review: I never knew that my mouth has ventured in some of the most violated environments. Fast food has been one of the most convinent things in my life until i read this book. You wold thing that people who work in these environment would try and put themselves in their costumers shoes. I really wonder if the head hanchos eat the food that they supply for the rest of society. I want to see one of them eat a big lard buger that has had roaches reproduce on it. its really incredeibal to me that places like McDondals and other fast food places make so much profit that they do. you'd think that people would have more coomon sense then that.
