Rating: Summary: Must have reference... Review: If you're doing any serious machine programming of the SPARC architecture you need this book. The book is about 350 pages - the first half of which is an overview of the architecture itself (starting with general SPARC stuff, moving into detailed coverage of registers, instructions, traps, and memory access), the second half of which is a detailed opcode reference. Not exactly nightstand reading, but it gets the job done quickly and efficiently. I was a little bummed that the physical format of the book didn't aid the reader in using it as a reference, since that's obviously what it's going to be used for 99% of the time. For instance, dark tabs on the pages to identify the sections of the book would have been helpful.
