Summary: Easy to read yet informative
Review: The authors have taken a step by step approach to deliver a good amount of useful information and resource links. The book is easy to read (or scan as a reference). The book proceeds from a general overview to the minutia of search engines and how they work. Very useful guide on analyzing top-ranking pages. The content is written with the SEO professional in mind, but is also useful for the do-it-yourselfer with basic web page editing skills. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for legitimate ways to increase their web site placement on the search engines.

Summary: Recipe to be spammer and unethical SE optimizer
Review: The whole SEO strategy the authors teach is based on doorway pages and hidden links, which are considered UNETHICAL and SPAM by SEO community and Search Engines. Never ever do what they say. Otherwise you will damage your reputition and business.

Summary: Excellent Source
Review: This is a really good for for SEO. Don't listen to that guy saying that because Google is not in the book, it not good. It is his own fault not to read this:
---------------------------------------
Paperback: 418 pages ; Dimensions (in inches): 1.23 x 9.13 x 8.04
Publisher: Adams Media Corporation; (September 2000)
---------------------------------------
The book was published back in 2000, and he read the book in 2004. Googles was starting to become an eyeopener just then, so blame him for not researching about the book.
Of course, this book does not tell you everything there is about SEO, another good source for SEO is http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/search-engine-optimization.html his ebook

Summary: Use as Training Manual
Review: While any book on the search engines is basically out-of-date by the time it is published, there is basic information which needs to be understood in order to build a solid foundation in this business. Planet Ocean and the SearchEngineForums.com are great on-line resources for the latest information - but you do need a good solid understanding to grasp the issues. This book helps the newbie get up to speed quickly. We give the book to our new employees and they can get a solid grasp of this business in two days and ready for our extensive advanced training on search engine positioning.

Summary: Great information with valuable resources!
Review: Yes, it's a good source but it is also missing a great deal of the greatest and latest. Just do a search on the Web and you will see that this book is obsolete.

SEO without Google is OES as in ObSoletE.
