Rating: Summary: Great Introduction to Modem Design Review: This book is a great introduction to digital modem design. I put together my first crude QPSK modem just before getting this book. I read a bunch of different articles and papers in order to design my modem pieces and put them together. Most of that reading was a waste of time. I wish that I had this book back then because it covers everything you need to design a basic modem ...such as AGC, pulse shape filtering, carrier recovery, symbol timing recovery, etc. This book is also VERY easy to understand. Anyone new to modem design should definitely get this book. You will get a simple understanding of all the modem parts, how they work, why they are used, and how to put them together to make a fully operational modem. You can also play with the matlab code provided to tweak various parameters and see how they affect their respective modem part. After this book, you are fully prepared for the more advanced modem papers and books out there that would have been very hard to start with. The authors did a great job.
