Summary: The unofficial Web promotion handbook!
Review: I use this book religiously. I've read it cover to cover 4 times already. Stanek follows a practical and useful promotion plan. I don't see why anyone would publish on the web and not use this book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Worked for me!
Review: I learned so much about promoting on the Web thanks to Mr. Stanek's wonderful book. I think anyone that has created stuff for the web or plans to should have this book. The tips for cost free promotion are priceless--they saved me a bundle.

Summary: Stanek does it again!
Review: Stanek had me hooked on his writing ever since Web Publishing Unleashed. As someone else said he's not afraid to tell it like it is and provides great insight into what ever topic he tackles. I liked Increase because it is a hands on book that helps you learn a great deal about promoting a home page or web site. I believe the book is ideal for promoting personal and business. Try it I think you will agree.

Summary: A good book and a personal favorite!
Review: I like to read Stanek's books because hes not afraid to tell it like it is. I have purchased several of his previous books. They were exceptional as is this book. If you publish on the Web I think this book is a must read. I don't know why anyone would build a home page and not follow Mr Stanek's sound advice for getting the page noticed.

Summary: I liked it!
Review: Stanek's hands on approach is absolutely refreshing. This book is the how-to guide to promoting a Web site or home page. I learned something new every step of the way and I've been publishing on the Web for many years.

The "in a weekend" approach works and it works well. I started out on Friday evening and it was smooth sailing all the way through. Stanek's advice helped my site get listed as the Cool Central Site of the Day.

Summary: Flat out best Web book I've ever read!
Review: I don't care what anyone says, this book is tops as far as I am concerned. Wonderful from the word go. The book starts with a quick look at where the book is going. Granted, if you've visited the companion Web site for the book, you've already read part of this so it may seem repetitive. No one said you had to read the first 10 pages again.

Afterward, the rest of the book concentrates on heavy duty promotion. I was amazed that the author could pack so much into only 450 pages. Beside the quick look at the beginning, there is absolutely NONE of the background, filler, rehash trash you find in other books. The publisher even opted to put the books appendixes on the companion Web site, so you and I didn't have to deal with the extra 50-100 pages and the associated price hike. BTW, you'll find the SUPPOSEDLY missing appendixes at the companion Web site (www.tvpress.com/promote/).

The amazing amount of time the author spent finding resources for this book is incredible. The book reads like a thoroughbred. Its upbeat, interesting and full a great information! I have to agree with a previous reviewer who said, that yes, there is finally a Web book that everyone can use...Tony Higgins

Summary: Increase WORKS!
Review: I don't know why people reads reviews when they could be reading a great book like this one instead. I guess that you are curious like me as to what others thought of the book. My thought is that I rarely buy books anymore but when I find one I really likes I buy it. INCREASE author William Stanek did a good job with the writing. Everything makes sense and has good organization. The book reads well and has lots of useful information. I'm living proof the promotion tips work. My home page is enjoying its busiest time since I put it up a year ago. Hits for the past three days are 752, 812, and 708. Total hits for the entire week before I started were 702. When you get going with the promotion, be patient even a fast-growing green bean takes time to poke its head out of the soil after you plant it. -- Jil

Summary: Outstanding! My web traffic increase 5X!
Review:

I've been searching for a book like this one for a very long time. The book is thorough, yet tackles things succinctly allowing you to complete the promotion tasks quickly. The author has set up a comprehensive companion Web site for the book at http://www.tvpress.com/promote/. To access the resources at the Web site, you need the book (it gives you the page locations for the resources). Anyone looking for the Web Promoter's Log book (mistakenly referenced as Appendix D) will find the log book at there. In the author's errata notes (http://www.tvpress.com/promote/notes.htm), he states the appendixes were placed on-line in an effort to cut costs and reduce the price of the book. Personally, I like saving $5.00 off the original cover price! Bravo! I wish more books would do the same...

The book starts by laying out the master plan for the book (and your promotion efforts). Although some of this may seem repetitive to folks who know promotion basics, the author does a good job of introducing everything in a way that makes sense. After the Friday night preview, things take off and you dive right in to the real meat of the book. The book flows very well and is very easy to follow. Plus, I actually enjoyed following along with the examples for a change.

After doing everything the author says, I saw my home page's traffic soar! In a few days, the traffic went from abuot 25 page views a day to over 50 page views a day. Now, my home page is getting well over a 100 page views a day and it looks like the daily traffic is still increasing!

Summary: The copy I got was incomplete, as is the companion web site.
Review: I love this book, with the exception of a few things. First, it refers to appendices A-D but I found no appendices in the book, and they have valuable missing pieces like all of the author's log sheets. They are also apparently offered on the companion website, but all I find there is propaganda about purchasing the book and all the same stuff from the first chapter. My only other problem with the book is the repetition of the same concepts & ideas, often in a section immediately following the one I just read. And usually with no additional information, just different words. Once you do finally get into the meaty part of the book it does quite a nice job of getting the facts to you in a manner that's easy to read and understand. I can only assume that the Appendix oversight was a publishing mistake and that the companion web site is still under construction (though it doesn't say that it is). One note to the author: the wc command takes optional parameters in Unix, one of which is the -l (lowercase L) switch which tells it to give you a line count only (just the first column of the output). This would have saved the repeated explanations about ignoring the other two columns. Though I concede that you may have omitted it in the interest of simplification and limiting the already cryptic nature of Unix commands. You don't have to publish this as a review, I'd just like to get the promised missing appendices. I'll send you the title page as proof of purchase if you like, or even send back the book for an updated copy if you'll pay postage. I just want the whole book that I purchased. Please get this to the publisher, and have them contact me at sydd@syddware.com SyddWare P.O.Box 181 Annapolis Junction, MD 20701

Summary: Terrific!
Review: Stanek's got this Web promotion stuff down. No Web publisher should be without this book. This is the third Stanek book I've purchased. The other two books I have are his Netscape ONE Dev Guide and his Web Publishing Pro Ref. His book are always packed with insights and Increase is no exception
