Summary: Excellent Supplement to the PMBOK
Review: There is no doubt that you need to be thoroughly familiar with the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) in order to pass the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam. I took the test this week and passed on the first try, responding to 85% of the questions correctly.
My experienct is that about 70% of all the test questions can be answered correctly using the PMBOK alone. However, a score of 70% is just passing. This means that you have to gain additional insight and knowledge from supplemental materials or attend courses to have a better chance of being certified on the first try.
The only learning tool that I used in my two weeks of preparation was Preparing for the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Exam by Michael W. Newell. The author's alternative presentation of the core PMBOK material made them much easier to understand. The book is especially useful for its statistics' explanations. Importantly, the book also includes many specific items that were part of the test, which do not appear in the PMBOK. The hundreds of questions contained in the book were excellent preparation for the test. In fact, many of them were actually on the test. You can't beat that!

Summary: Please avoid this book
Review: This book is a mediocre source for preparing for the PMP. It contains too many errors, inaccurate information and it is loaded with irrelevant information for the pmp test. if you do not want to pass the pmp test then read this book.

Summary: Well written
Review: This easy-to-read book is a great addition to my library. I haven't taken the PMP exam as yet but I have found the content of the book to be very beneficial in my business even though my projects are usually very small.

Summary: Worst PMP prep book I bought
Review: This was the first book I bought to prepare for the PMP. I found it to be poorly written, and I barely made it thru the first few chapters. Rita's book is much better, less wordy and more to the point. With just her book and the PMBOK, I passed on the first try.

Summary: Don't waste you money!
Review: This was the first PMP Exam prep review book I purchased, mainly due to low cost compared to other PMP prep books. Next I got ESI's tests (very hard but good prep). Then I got Rita's book it's the best!!!! Recently I purchased Kim Heldman's book - don't like the structure of info, but I purchased for the tests and flashcards (that are downloadable to your Palm Pilot).

So in comparison to others available, this book really is disappointing. Practice tests have choices of 5 answers vs PMP's 4 answers. Also, still uses old terminology for EV (BCWP, BCWS, etc). This is confusing now that the terminology has changed.

Anyway, don't invest the money here - bigger returns in other purchases.
