Rating: Summary: Interesting and Useful Review: A helpful introduction to wireless and mobile systems, and the things you can do with them. It covers both the technology and the economics, and is generally well-written. It isn't really an engineering manual or a users' guide for your cell phone, but then it doesn't claim to be.
Rating: Summary: Good overview of the wireless world Review: As someone new to wireless technology, I found this book very helpful. It explains what all the buzzwords like 3G and m-commerce actually MEAN, and left me understanding a lot mroe about the industry than before. I particularly liked the chapter on how 3G works, because it had a lot of detailed info without being overwhelming. There's actually quite a lot of technical details throughout the book, yet it's still readable. You can read it almost from cover to cover as an introduction to the topic, then keep it as a reference later.
Rating: Summary: A little of everything Review: Explains what lies behind most of the hype about 3G and mobile Internet, plus a lot more like MMDS that I hadn't heard of before. Don't expect it to turn you into an expert on wireless overnight, but it will bring you up to speed on the technology.
Rating: Summary: Excellent introduction to wireless comms Review: Good intro for people who know nothing about wireless and mobile technology. There's also some more technical material that a complete beginner to computers might have problems with, but better to have too much than too little.
Rating: Summary: An excellent introduction into wireless world Review: Mr. Dornan explains in a very easy -to-understand way all the wireless technologies. This is an excellent introduction book and, at the same time, a complete reference guide.

Rating: Summary: Wireless is the way Review: Soon we will be able to access our email from our cell phones and surf the Net from your watch. The Europeans and Japanese already can. America is catching up. But do we really want the phone company to know where we are all the time?
Rating: Summary: Cynical but optimistic Review: The writer seems to have a very low opinion of most companies and their business plans, but that's probably realistic. He is more excited about the way wireless will revolutionise our lives, and opportunities for new players.
Rating: Summary: Insightful and balanced perspectives on wireless technology Review: The writing of such a book inevitably involves balancing between the amount of detail provided and the level of accessibility for the average layman; in my opinion, the author manages this remarkably well. Almost everything that spans the gamut of wireless technology is covered, apart from technically involved topics, yet the conciseness of the text allows the reader to have a good grasp of the relevant issues within a short time. What makes this book stand out though is the refreshing insight into various aspects of the technology offered by the author; the preface says that "it is designed to look beyond the hype", and from what is written you can tell that the author knows what he is talking about.I will definitely be looking out for a second edition and other works by Andy Dornan.
Rating: Summary: excellent book for the staff! Review: This book gives an excellent, clear picture of the state of things. I work for a small agresive company in the Telecommunications field and I give copies to the sales staff so they know what we are selling and also to development staff so they have some context of what they are trying to build.
