Summary: Not exactly
Review: OK. No long winded discourse. Just the heart of the review.

This book primarily focuses on starting and running a business. The eBay part is on secondary importance, and used mostly as an example. Of the 548 pages, less than 15% exclusively related to eBay. There are no significant tips, tweaks or "inside information". All of the information can be found, free & easy,
through sources such as the U.S. Government's public information services (Small Business Administration), eBay's own help pages, or e-Books on business websites.

Despite what other reviewers have said, this book is very much entry level - as is typical with AMACOM books.

I would not say it is a waste of money, but don't expect anything inside it to give you a significant edge in starting and running a profitable eBay business. You may avoid some obvious errors or omissions, however, as I said, there are plenty of free, up-to-date, and concise sources that can do the same for you.

Summary: Good for Beginners -- Mediocre for Experienced Ebayers
Review: Sinclair put a lot of good information in this book for beginners, but not very much for experienced ebayers.

However, as other reviewers have noted, he added a lot of "fluff" to this book and there is not a lot of information for experienced ebayers. The book has a lot of pages but not all of them have useful information. The book could have been condensed and sold for a lower price.

It's not a waste of money if you are relatively new to ebay or have never sold anything on ebay and need to know how it works. But don't expect this book to teach you everything you need to know. It falls short of that.

What it does provide is a beginner's insight to selling on ebay and starting an ebay business. Sinclair's book is very comprehensive. It just does not go into any significant depth. For example, he did provide a nice list of wholesale resources for people wondering where they can buy inventory, but he only discusses a few of them and even then not very much.

Sinclair is also obviously biased to using auction management services. However, it is only economical to use such services if and when you are selling a significant volume of products on a very consistent basis. You need to learn to do it on your own first.

Also, when it comes to accounting software, he left out "Simply Accounting." This one is fairly new but is it much cheaper than others and it does the job. I highly recommend it for those starting a small business.

Overall, good for beginners, but get information from other sources also.

Summary: The perfect book for mom
Review: Thanks for writing this great guide to eBay. I wanted to help my mother get started selling antiques on eBay and you've written the perfect book for someone like her -- she's smart, but she's just starting out and needs all the help she can get. Thanks for saving me the grief of trying to show her myself -- you're much better at it anyway!

Summary: Disappointing and over-priced
Review: The worst part of this book is the author's advice to just try selling on a trial basis, and learn from your mistakes. Sounds like a recipe for losing money. I have 2000 feedback with eBay, and found the book disappointing. Never sell anything on eBay unless you have a demonstrated demand for the product. Learn to use eBay's advanced search features, and leave this book behind.

Summary: Helped me get started
Review: This book helped me get started in setting up my home business. Now I sell on ebay full-time. The author knows the business well and has many tips for everyone whether you're just starting out or have been on ebay for a long time. Because of this book I can honestly say that I went from dabbling to real profits.

Summary: a good value
Review: This book is 500 pages of rich information that is helping make me rich. A real value for the price too! I've read a few books about e-bay but this is the only one that gets to the point and gives you the information you need. Concise and generous. I hate to sound like a comercial but it's the only book you'll ever need on the subject.

Summary: A waste of money and time
Review: This book is neither a good book on selling over eBay not a good book on setting up a company. Trying to be "all things" to all people, it comes out as very superficial and almost anecdotal. Don't let the pagecount fool you: the 548 pages, with better layout (almost half of each page is white space) could be cut down to 200 or so, without much information being missed. And then, there's the dubious use of the information left. Having read the more technical "eBay Hacks" at the same time, though not focused on the business side of things, I found it to be a lot more useful. If you're looking to set up an eBay shop, go to eBay and read about it, and save yourself $17.47 in the process!

Summary: Great tips - Independent advice.
Review: This is the best eBay book yet! I started with the author's first book. That's a great intro to eBay for newbies. Then if you're ready to take the next step and make more money, this book will help you do it. The author has lots of great ideas and helps you think through what's right (most profitable) for your business. There are no cookie cutter answers, though other books often go that route. Nice too that the book doesn't seem too "endorsed" by eBay. An independent opinion for a change.
