Summary: A home-run that touches all the bases for On-Line Auctions!
Review: A treasure-trove of ideas and tips to guide the novice and pro alike as they venture into on-line auctions, especially the mother of them all, eBay.

Designed to both inform and guide, the book explains techniques to be used to find, price, sell, and ship your collectibles. In addition, it helps "pull it all together" and wraps up the complex but necessary business part of auctions, keeping track of costs and records. Although developed especially for eBay, the wealth of information will benefit any participant in any auction.

Summary: Comprehensive, funny and better than I imagined!
Review: Comprehensive, smart and better than I hoped for! I wasn't quite sure what an 'Official Guide to eBay' was actually going to cover. However, I was delighted by this smart book that also has a sense of humor. It of course has all the 'how to' stuff you'll ever need about eBay and covers lots of ebay's rules and online etiquette. It's also packed with great advice about being more sucessful in buying and selling and taking a more business like approach to ebay activities. The book has profiles of eBay collectors and sellers and little tidbits about ebay that made this much more than a point and click mannual; it's actually a fun read. A portion of the book is devoted to the whole crazy world of collecting and the world beyond ebay. I found this helpful and I can see how collectors or people trying to sell to collectors could benefit from this information. I learned a great deal. Now I know I am actually an ebaysian!

Summary: A History of the Past
Review: I am very disappointed in this book. As most of the information in this book is outdated, this book should be selling on ebay as a collectors item. Much of the information that can be considered useful to the current ebay functionality is common sense. That is, the book did not reveal to me anything that a second or third time user of ebay could not have figure out.

Summary: Good for beginners
Review: If you have never been to eBay then this book is for you. It will give you the basics of buying, selling, and searching on eBay. If you have any experience at all either buying or selling, then you probably already know the things in this book.

I was pretty disappointed in how outdated the book had become in just a short year. Ebay is always changing something, so some of the references are no longer valid.

Summary: Basics of eBay
Review: The Official ebay Guide gave me the basics to everything about ebaying. Answered many questions that I had from the past couple of years of ebaying & now wanting to get a whole lot more. This books raised many more questions that the book could answer. However it gave me the basics and left me in search of more detailed information. So, the book is just what it listed a Guide. Now I look for the Handbook to ebay.

Summary: Great for the beginning Ebayer
Review: This book has tons of great information for the beginning Ebayer. It tells everything you need to know about getting started on Ebay. But, since I already had been familiar with Ebay for two years I didn't find it all that helpful. If you are new to Ebay then you do need this book. If I would have had it when I first started then it would have made things a lot smoother.

Summary: The Best Book on e-Bay (but we knew that anyway, didn't we?)
Review: This book is put out by the people of e-Bay. And it seems the best for all Ebaysians. The Big Theory is that e-Bay will not tell you "insider tips". Not true. This book does tell you about "sniping" and they do tell you it's fair game. They even tell you how to do it! So I would forget this theory, primarily since it is absolutely false. This is a review on "The Official e-Bay Guide". But although it is the best book on e-Bay, it is not the only book on e-Bay. Some "sticklers" will even tell you that you need no books on e-Bay. Just follow the e-Bay tour. Don't believe it! I have a friend who I let borrow these books (too be honest, I'm still afraid to use them!) He is on his way to becoming a millionaire or even a billionaire. He told me, "Thank you, Bill, for buying these books. They were really indispensable for building my business (he had given me the "yackety -yack" about 'all you need is the e-Bay tour'." I ordered them from Amazon.com and I am sure that I will NOT be written about in HIS biography. But I do ask questions and I do observe. He seems to give major credit to this book. About 50%. Oddly enough, he gives about 45% credit to "eBay for Dummies" by Roland Woerner, Stephanie Becker, and Marsha Collier. The other 5% goes to "Online Auctions at eBay" by Dennis Prince. Now Mr. Moneybucks tells me he doesn't even want to borrow the last book anymore! I have Prince's book here by my side as I write this. I like the guy. It weighs more than the other books. More pages. Your guess is as good as mine! I think that Prince just makes everything that is simple, complicated. From what I can tell. Anyway, order those two books from Amazon.com IF you are on eBay or want to BE on eBay. Good luck.

Summary: Fine in 1999, but outdated
Review: This book was probably very good in its day, but eBay has changed so much since it was published that it really doesn't hit things straight on. It has the basics of buying and selling, and is loaded with cute anecdotes. I've had gotten better information with the updated Dummies books on the subject.
