Summary: 3G technologies made very simple!
Review: "3G Demystified" lives up to it's title. This book is written in a style and format that makes for a very clear introduction to the upcoming 3G wireless technologies. The book covers the history, technical terms, standards, business applications & concepts in a clear, concise manner. The only fault- some of the diagrams are very rudimentary. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get a much better overview of the 3G wireless space.

Summary: helped me with my wireless telecom industry career!
Review: I just switched jobs going to a major wireless telecom industry manufacturer and I credit this book in helping me with background information to quickly jump-start in my new career. This book covers basic information on both the First and Second Generation technologies (analog and digital), GPRS and EDGE (2.5 Generation), CDMA 2000 and Wideband CDMA technologies. There are chapters on wireless phones, networks, economics and applications which includes good market data. I have purchased several books on the wireless industry but found this to be the most useful, and this is the only one that covers all the elements in one book. Also the way the authors connect all the chapters and use historical and factual data is very interesting as well, and the almost 500 pages can be read in a a few days with no major problems.

Summary: Very useful, enlightening and quick to the point.
Review: I recommend this book to those that are new to the 3G technology as well as the experienced network technologists...

Summary: highly recommended
Review: In my opinion, THE book for detailed introduction to Third Generation Wireless Communications Systems. The authors cover all the issues in an easy to read format.

Summary: recommended for overview of 3G Wireless
Review: It's a pretty good book for people who'd like to learn more about next generation wireless technologies. This 3G Wireless Demystified book covers 1G, 2G, 2.5G and 3G wireless networks and various air interfaces used and/or are proposed for these networks. It also does a very good job of listing applications and business opportunities for new wireless services. While it doesn't provide in-depth design engineering level coverage of any particular wireless topic, it does offer a very good broad overview on everything pertaining to 3rd generation wireless.

Summary: In depth, understandable and readable
Review: Reading this book was a breeze. Misters Harte, Levine and Kikta have transformed the hottest topic of the telecom industry into an understandable and easy readable format, without sacrificing depth of content. All of the key issues-- GPRS and EDGE, WCDMA, CDMA2000 and applications are covered. Having previously read other books by these authors, I find that their writing style enables anybody to understand subject matter that you would think only experts could decypher. I highly recommend 3G Wireless Demystified!

Summary: UMTS technologies made simple (perhaps made too much simple)
Review: Suitable for non-technical people. Very light on detail. Just an 600 pages overview of UMTS technologies and doesn't provide a clear picture. Books by European centric authors offer much better reading and clear picture of the technology (Kaaranen, Korhonen, Holma, Muratore). It seems "demystifies" series books from Mc Graw-Hill are less technical than the publiher's "professional" series books. 3G Wireless Networks by Collins from Mc Graw-Hill (Professional) is also a better raading.

Summary: Good reference to 3G for the non-techie
Review: The best thing about this book is that otherwise technically involved topics are rendered comprehensible for the average reader. However, I feel that certain concepts could have been better illustrated with diagrams rather than relying on textual descriptions e.g. the various states of mobile handset operation. In addition, many of the diagrams in the book are too simple to facilitate understanding.

Apart from the various standards relevant to 3G, cursory introductions to the various components of the mobile handset and network are also given, which should be useful to those who need a crash course in how cellular networks work. It is a puzzle why these sections were placed after the standards as people who can plow through the standards will already know most of the material !

Definitely a good book for brushing up on 3G.

Summary: a good reference book packed with useful information
Review: The next generation wireless technologies are going to greatly affect the way business and consumers communicate. This book presents a technical and marketing oriented overview of 3G wireless telecommunications and its various applications. Topics covered include network technologies, transmission systems, standards, devices and applications. 3G Demystified contains many useful diagrams and illustrations to assist the easy to read explanations, and serves as a good, useful reference book.
