Summary: Too hard to understand
Review: The book is way too over. I have 5 yrs exp. with 3 in web dev. Still could not make anything out of what the author was trying to convey. The book does not have a practical approach to the usage of the portal.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Many pages, but little useful information
Review: The information provided in this book is too general. I wish I had given up this book early before I spent so much time finishing the whole book. I did not know much about SharePoint Portal Server. After I read this book, I found that I still know little about it.

Summary: Fair ?!?
Review: The review by Tobin Lewis is right. This isn't a resource book. And the authors do occasionally get in way too deep ( the chapter on the doc store lost me so quick i got whiplash ). There are not that many books on SharePoint out there, kids, and this one is still the best by far. It is short ( in computer book terms ), to the point, packed with info and, in some places, relatively easy to read.

This is the book if you are looking to do more than admin a Sharepoint implementation, i.e. customizing and/or understanding the product. And if admining SharePoint is all you want, stick to what Microsoft gives you for free, it's better than the other books available ( or, in some cases, the same thing ). And check out the Microsoft newsgroup. that may be the best resource available ( isn't that scary )

Summary: Not good
Review: This book (especially the beginning) contains lots of unnecessary, story-like and useless text. I have read the first 70 pages and I hope the rest of the book is much better.

Summary: an waste of materials waster for this book
Review: This book [is bad]. There it is plain and simple, it doesn't cover much of anything that the reader already knows. It looks like they just copied from the online help files and hoped to make profit out it.

Summary: The Best Resource for Developers
Review: This is still the best book out there for developers looking to extend and customize SharePoint Portal Server. It provides detailed step-by-step instructions for customizing the UI and insight into the ways you should and should not use SPS. Highly recommended.
