Summary: Meeting Data Warehouse Challenges for the 21st Century!
Review: Data Warehouse Project Management is an excellent tool for the challenging information systems field. This is a truly definitive book on data warehousing that emphasizes the way data warehouses should be developed and how a data warehouse impacts the entire organization...from the people who design and develop a data warehouse to the business people who need to interface with the developers of the data warehouse and to those who, on a daily basis, are involved in corporate decision making. And, if you are on the hiring side of the equation, you need to know what to look for when interviewing top talent. Using the "Data Warehouse Project Management" is a great method for learning while doing, especially if you dont' have the time to train employees in this discipline. As growth through technology changes the way corporations do business, Sid and Larissa highlight the importance of how a well defined and developed data warehouse can bring process improvement, productivity and innovation to the overall success of the organization.

Summary: Lack any depth on how really set up a Data Warehouse
Review: I am just starting a large scale Data Warehouse project. I hoped this book would give real insight to architect the solution - but I found the book weak and superficial - too much focused on the "usual" project team fluff

Summary: Keep on looking
Review: I have worked as a data warehouse specialist and project manager for many years and was excited when I saw this book online for the first time. My excitement was dashed soon after I began reading the text.

It is very week, at best. The authors seem to have a poor understanding of basic terms such as data, records, and fields. The title is very misleading. The fact is, there is very little sound information one can use in either the area of data warehousing or project management.

The book states that its intended audience is " the experienced project manager who needs to know about the differences between a data warehouse project and a traditional project" (page xxviii of the preface). Let me tell you... this book is no "helping hand".

If you are an experienced project manager, get a copy of 'Object Oriented Data Warehouse Design'. If you are experienced in data warehousing, get a copy of 'The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management'. If you still want a copy of this book, I'll sell you mine at half price.

Summary: Pragmatic Approach To DW Project Management
Review: If you have managed lots and lots of Data Warehouse projects then this may not be the book you need - but if you have never been involved in a data warehouse project or served as a project manager, then this might be the best advice you can get for the price. Sure..you can hire expensive consultants - but before you do, take the time to read this book first. Master it. Absorb it. Then when your consultants show up at least you can judge their veracity and experience level.

If you have to go it alone. Mr. Adelman and Ms Terpeluk-Moss provide the benefit of their experience as consultants, Project Managers and Educators to you.

Summary: A Project Manager Must-Read
Review: Sid Adelman and Larissa Moss have crafted an easy to read and entertaining reference guide for project managers everywhere. They provide real solutions to everyday problems that project managers face. Beginning project managers and anyone who has managed a project of any size will learn something from this book. Even though it is focused towards data warehousing, the topics relate to all projects.

Summary: A Data Warehousing Must Read
Review: This book is an all-encompassing guide to the data warehouse project manager. It's obvious that the authors have earned their strips (and scares) onsite. I thought the exercises at the end of each chapter were great and I especially enjoyed the "poison people" section.

This book is a must read for any project manager or anyone aspiring to be one. I strongly recommend this book.
