Summary: So glad somebody wrote it!
Review: As a video producer in a small band, I bought this book for one and one reason only: To learn how to use A.Pack. There is no info anywhere on the web that tell you how A.Pack works, but I heard on Apple's DVD list that this book was a good resource for making AC3 files. It is, and it's even better than I imagined.

The 600 pages of text hold ideas I've never thought of, like making sure my menu buttons are placed correctly in the "title-safe zone," or making transitions for my menus. In fact, there's a whole discussion of 4:3 video, drop vs non-drop frame, pixel aspect ratio, GOPs and I-Frames in MPEG video - in many ways this book feels more like a course than a reference manual: I learned a lot about video in general!

I also now know what dialog normalization is, and that alone was worth the money. This book will be beside my computer for a while to come!

Summary: A good and timely guide
Review: DVD STUDIO PRO 2 for MAC OSX is an excellent guide to use.To his credit, Martin Sitter addresses a very complex subject with an intuative and helpful approach (he explains very sophisticated video/audio terms usually not addressed in such accessible guidebooks, such as the Visual QuickPro Guides or the Dummies series). He even covers the why and the how of pixel-shape conversion required to utilize an image from the newest Photoshop CS into NTSC, and de-mystifies many, many, other intricate concepts and the steps to take to get your projects into DVD Studio Pro 2 successfully, so that what you set up will work, and most importantly, will give you the proper satisfaction. This is a well thought out guide that can easily be used by anyone upgrading from iDVD and is a bit hesitant about the jump, to the seasoned Pro, who just wants to get a handle on this redesigned new architecture quickly. This one is well worth the investment.

Summary: Lacks some vital information
Review: In his book ver 1.5 Martin covers scripts and play all buttons. However in ver 2.0 he does not cover scripts in the book but has you go to web for that information. Plus he does not cover scripts with enough information to feel you understand it.

Feels like he was rushing to get this book out fast and then decided at last minute he left out vital information.

Summary: In a slim field, this is pretty much all there is.
Review: This book was definitely helpful to me; but it didn't expand a whole lot further than the 500+ page manual included with the software. Some additional helpful information on creating appropriate graphics, but I didn't learn a whole lot. I'm waiting for a really good DSP 2.0 book to come out. But until that happens, this is really the best you can do.
