Rating: Summary: Don't Bother Review: I bought this sometime ago and found it strange that this was targetting someone attempting CCIE certification as I do not beleive that it is in depth enough. The more important aspects of CCIE security would surely be IPSec [24 pages only ] and the 2 pages on VPDN was very disappointing. The whole book I found rather bland and contains quite a few errors [considering they had 5 CCIES involved, one is proctor and another is a triple CCIE ...] The explanation of the ISAKMP interaction with things like Hashing, DH, Keys etc was rather unclear and perhaps confusing at times. It's that not dreadful but I personally wouldn't waste the best part of £50 on it. Read the RFC's and the Cisco CD - you'll get on just fine
Rating: Summary: Excellent companion-10 stars Review: I did not need any other material to pass, now using it for the lab, awesome,a must for any ccie want to be !!!!
Rating: Summary: The material and CD are fantastic Review: I easily pass the written exam with this guide and the cd companion alone is worth the price alone, also contains anotehr book as a bonus, its a great book and written well and targets what you see in the exam, chapter 9 is a ccie security lab that from what I hear is far more difficult than the real labs prodcued by Cisco so I highly recommend this book for passing both exams, the book has been reviewed by ccie proctors so its got to be accurate.
Rating: Summary: This book is well writen for the content on the exam Review: I firmly beleive you cannot comment on my book without taking the examination, for the reviewer to make a statement without sitting in the examination is really poor form, it tooks months to write and ensure it contained all the material you will need to pass not only the written but also contains two sample CCIE labs written by ccie proctors , why don;t you tell us what mistakes are made so the poubisher can correct them , this book helped me nail the written exam so I totally disagree with this statement, were are the book written by you ?
Rating: Summary: Very good guide for ccie labs in general Review: I have attempted many ccie labs and this book really nails the main sections were candidates typically fail, this book will really improve your chance of success and at the current high price the ccie labs are this is a small price to pay and then its a great reference guide, I used it the other day to get a network up and running, highly recommneded, great work by Ciscopress,
Rating: Summary: Unfortunately now outdated Review: I have no doubt that this book would have been a useful resource when first published, despite the many errors in the text. Cisco have now updated the Exam content and this book is now missing around half of the material to pass the exam.
Rating: Summary: Poorly Written, inaccurate Review: I have not yet taken the qualification exam, so I cannot honestly comment as to the value of this book as a study guide. However, I can most certainly testify that it was poorly edited, riddled with errors. Statements made about encryption algorythms and hashing was just plain wrong.
Rating: Summary: If you were confused before.... Review: I have used a lot of Cisco Press titles before and this is the worst of the bunch. Riddled with inaccuracies and poorly presented with no real value to add. The book contains information that is patently incorrect and will cause budding CCIE's to adopt an incorrect understanding of several core concepts. It also contains a CD with a testing engine. This really has to be seen to be believed. An example of what to expect from this is a question with 4 potential answers, three of which are the same. The answer is not even present in the options, and this is repeated throughout. On top of this some questions are not displayed correctly, giving the user a scenario and 4 answers but no question to go with it. In short, avoid.
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: I pass CCIE security written exam at this Wed. with more than 80 points. I think about 70-80% of the exam qustions' answer in this book. Good book, Thanks for this book. :) Here is something I found when I read first Chapter p48 Figure 2-12 HSRP Example Router D E0 maybe 131.109.1.3/24 (not 131.109.1.2/24) p50 last paragraph Configure Router D with an HSRP priority of 105 (maybe 100) so that any one(1 not 2) failure on Router C will mean that Router D priority is higher tan Router C. (Router C is set to 105; one failure and then it is set to 105-10=95<100) p51 After Example 2-7, last sentence. as displayed in Example 2-54, maybe Example 2-5. p55 table 2-7 maybe use a show ip route example with ospf route$B!J(BExternal 2) is good. p59 rip set up neighbors to reduce broadcast traffic, maybe can be use in RIPv1, not only in RIPv2. p73 last sentence, to R2 router ID of 131.108.14.1, maybe 131.108.15.1.
Rating: Summary: Essential for test prep Review: I passed my CCIE Security written this morning. My primary study material was this book. Henry Benjamin's book lets you know what to expect on the exam, and for the most part, he's right on the money. I used this book as my primary source, and as secondary sources, Giles' All-in-One R/S study guide and IOS and PIX command references. You will have to know security protocol behavior a bit deeper than is presented here to ace that portion of the exam.
