The other reviewers for this book are accurate however, I have an issue with the errors and typos IN THIS BOOK!!!

I bought this book to correctly answer the exam. Lucky for me I realize some of the errors, but I EXPECT Charles River Pub or the author to create a webreference to CORRECTIONS where the editor & fact checker FAILED. Publisher/Author take note: we're talking 2004 and expect 100% accuracy when paying $45 for a reference.

Thanks, enjoy. (buy it used, buy several titles.)

Summary: Crayton's newset effort is one to keep an eye on.
Review: Anytime there is an opportunity to enhance my classes with material that will help in passing any certification track then I will be the first to try it. I have read and used material from Chris Crayton in the past in the A+ and Security+, so I can say that the material is technically accurate and up to date. His latest effort is certainly no exception.

As anyone knows tackling the A+ certification has the task of passing two exams, one for Hardware or Core and 1 for Operating Systems and the new OS exam has gone beyond all the others. Each chapter covers the objectives from start to finish. Now if you are looking for the be-all end-all book, this is not that book. However if you looking for a prep tool that hits the major points, and nails them on the head than this book is one you need to pick up.

The book does have pictures, but they really need to be in color to fully understand what is being asked to point out, overall there are pictures of just about all hardware that is pertinent to the exams. The author has certainly put together a reference manual that will give you a real boost in passing the exam on the first try.

One this book also has is the practice exams on cd rom which gives over 500 questions between the book and the cd. Another standout point for the book is the OS section, while most books cover the OSes; this book does a great job on NT, which is lightly covered in most other books.

Overall Chris Crayton has certainly done his part with this release, now you have to do yours.

Summary: I was looking for the update and found it!
Review: As we all know, A + Certification Exams change. Before I knew it, I was outdated with information from the previous exam. That's why I had to go get the most updated source to pass this test. I found it in Crayton's latest master piece... this book! It has all the guide tools to pass the test, including the CD (like always!) for practice.
Get this book and be ready to high-score on your test. I did!

Summary: Great book
Review: I am writing this book to simply state that if you want to pass the A+ tests this is the only book you need. I have never learned so much so quick. I purchased this book two weeks ago. I read it and passed both exams on 1/13/04. I was well prepared for both the hardware and software exams using this book as my single point of refference. This is a really great book.

Summary: Enough to pass... I guess...
Review: I have to agree with the "reader from Arlington TX." In fact, he basically said the way I feel about the book. It gives you enough information to pass, but barely. If you know next to nothing about computers, don't expect to pass using just this book (unless you can memorize EVERYTHING in the book). I passed, but I also had two years of IT maintenance prior to taking the exams. There was actually quite a number of questions on the exam that weren't covered at all in the book (I'd say 5 to 10%), as well as a number of others that weren't explained adequately enough in the book to know the answer. In summary, if you want to feel adequately prepared for the exams without taking classes, buy at least two or three different books and READ THEM ALL.

Summary: Got A+ Certify with this book !
Review: I just took and barely passed my A+ Hardware exam. This was one of the 2 books I read in preparation [the other was the A+ ExamCram2 Practice Questions and it had similar shortcomings]. Maybe it's true that no single book can be comprehensive. I found this book to be informative but not closely reflective of the test itself. This book will help you pass but that's it. I agree with a previous reviewer - if you want to score really high, you'll need some hands-on experience.

I just passed the OS exam on August 14th. In this case, I think the book was closer to the test. However, I passed with a low grade so I stand by my original opinion.

If anyone else can recommend a more comprehensive book than this please do so - I have yet to take the software exam. For now I'll be checking out certification websites.

A previous reviewer recommended that you get as much experience as possible. I am an Apple technician who has dealt with PC/peripheral/networking issues over the years. I believe that my experience combined with the books are the only reasons I passed.

Summary: Haste makes waste
Review: I purchased this book because, at the time, it was the only one I could find covering the recent CompTIA A+ test revisions. Sadly, the editors seemed in such a rush to get this out to print that they missed several detrimental mistakes and typos in the book AND on the CD. I find this to be inexcusable, ESPECIALLY since it has been out for several months and no errata has been presented by the publisher. Choose this book at your own risk!!
