Rating: Summary: An interesting exersize Review: ArcView Gis Exercise Book appears to be a valuable tool. It is a tutorial based on data included on on a CD. Persons interested in this book and accompanying CD should be aware that running the tutorial requires alteration to the autoexec.bat file, knowledge of DOS commands, and a fair amount of time and patience when attempting to open a project. A stream of queries regarding locations of files can take up to 30 minutes in an attempt to open a project to begin a particular tutorial. Default settings for ArcView startup will be changed with the modifications required.
Rating: Summary: From "AV Extension," vol. 0, no. 3, October 1997: Review: By Alice Doyle, Vermont Center for Geographic Information. Although in general [the exercise] build on skills gained in previous chapters, any of the exercises could readily be used on their own to learn a particular ArcView functionality. It could be equally useful as a reference book...Worthwhile Tips, Notes, and Warnings are also scattered through the book. The prepared project files on the CD make it very easy to do the exercises quickly and easily, plus the results are included on the CD in case you get stuck. I would highly recommend this book to the ArcView and/or GIS novice. It seems particularly appropriate for that audience because of the progression of the material, from overview of ArcView components, to working with basic functionality, to much more advanced analysis. Each topic is covered thoroughly for complete understanding of the section, and the user can move through it at their own pace and schedule.
Rating: Summary: Great Book - better than ESRI books Review: Great way to learn AV3 - better than Getting to Know Arcview
Rating: Summary: I really look forward to reading it-it's unvailable in China Review: I think many people here want to read it because GIS and Arcview are new for us, however it will be very popular! When can I have the opportunity?
Rating: Summary: Jahangeer Basha Shaik Review: It's an extremely good book for the beginners as well as experienced ones. It gives the step by step procedures and one doesn't need to know anything at all to read through this book. It gives you more knowledge than you expect of it without a doubt.
Rating: Summary: More user-friendly than "Inside ArcView GIS" Review: The book goes beyond "Getting to know ArcView" and includes the important tools someone needs to begin to take advantage of AV 3.x. I wish the book, or an associated one, would get into the extensions and more powerful uses of the software.

Rating: Summary: Written for individuals or classroom environment Review: The exercises use real data in the context of real applications. They're written for self study or classroom use. It starts you off at the beginning, but takes you into advanced topics including some scripts, changing the GUI, and deploying end-user applications. We hope you enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: On contents Review: Written to ArcView GIS (ArcView 3.x), provides hands-on experience in fundamental to sophisticated functionality in ArcView, ESRI's desktop geographic information systems software. Early chapters focus on the basic tools and functions of ArcView document types. Subsequent chapters highlight advanced analysis and functions in the context of real world applications. The final series of exercises culminates in the deployment of a custom end user application complete with a custom user interface.
Principal audience: Computer users with little or no experience in ArcView GIS or other GIS software.
