Rating: Summary: just perfect book.. Review: Perfect book, buy this one if you are appearing for java programmer certification.
Rating: Summary: Best book out there for Java certification Review: I prepared with this book and scored 91% on Sun Certified Java Programmer exam. Study this book well, do the mock exam on the CDROM and the bonus exam you get to download by registering at their website and some good sample exams on javaranch.com, and you should be able to pass the certification without a problem. I was surprised to see the problems presented in the actual test resemble closely to the problems in this book in terms of wording and difficulty. One more thing about this book: very enjoyable to read (lots of humour). Definitely, worth buying.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Book Review: Its a very wonderful book and covers all tghe details that one should know for the exam. The way the book has been organized is really great!!!. Anyone who is not familiar with Java that much can also score good after reading this book. I would say this is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to become a Sun Certified Programmer
Rating: Summary: book for passing the exam! Review: If you have some Java programming experience and really, really, badly want to pass SCJP in a short time, this is the book for you! I swear some of the questions on the exam were alluded to--verbatim--in this book. The authors very clearly state the purpose of the book. I like it.If, however, you really, really, badly want to learn programming in Java, you had better look at other books. Amazon.com has a huge selection of such books, including my favorite, Learning Java from O'Reilly.
Rating: Summary: I read this book and passed the exam with ease. Review: After reading this book over the course of a few weeks, I took the Sun Certified Programmer exam and scored a 90% (only 52% is required to pass.) There's nothing else I can say that will be of any more importance than that, or make for a stronger testimonial. It covers everything you need to know and is engaging enough that even someone with my limited attention span can get through it pretty quickly. My only teensy tiny complaint, if I had to come up with one, would be that the practice exam software is windows-only and is a bit clunky even by windows standards. It's still absolutely worthwhile, though, and I only mention it for those who don't have access to a windows machine. This is the only book you need to pass the exam.
Rating: Summary: The simulated exam software is too bad Review: Not mention the errors from the book. The simulated exam from the CD is too bad. It is very hard to use. I just finished with one of the simulated exam. I selected close book version. Guess what, the time limit is 1 and half hour ( stardard is 2 hours) and the default number of questions is 65 ( the book mentions that the stardand exam is 61). It uses higher percentage for pass scoring. I don't know what the author is thinking. What are you really simulated for ? I don't know what will be in the actual exam, the small window drives me crazy. I have to scroll up/down repeatly for the question and the answer options. When I ran out of time, the software does not allow me to review the incorrect and incomplete although the buttons are there. It always poped up one window to tell me that time is up.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent guide for the SCPJ 1.4 exam Review: Imagine this: you're in college, studying for the final exam -- and the teacher gives you all of her notes that spell out EXACTLY what you need to know, what you DON'T need to worry about, and even points out all the little traps she'll try to catch you in when you take the exam. Kathy Sierra, the co-developer of the 310-035 Programmer's exam, with the help of Bert Bates has done just that. The 3rd edition of Osborne's Sun Certified Programmer and Developer for Java 2 is an awesome book. Get this -- it's actually entertaining to read, very easy to understand, and the mock exams more closely resemble the real thing than any other mock out there. The "Two-minute Drills" are an excellent resource to help you review before you take the exam. The Exam Watches interspersed throughout the chapter point out all the traps you might fall in during the exam, and the On The Job blurbs give you a practical application for the knowledge you just learned. The end chunk of the book discusses what you need to know to pass the Developer s exam. It won't teach you Swing or Threads - but what the exam assessor's are looking for - the things you need to pay attention to in order to pass that exam. I fully recommend this book. Make sure you check the author's website for the errata -- the first printing was a bit buggy, many errors have been fixed in the 2nd printing.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book! Review: This is the only book you need to study to take the exam (of course, besides doing some mock exams) IMHO. I studied it for 4 weeks and completed some online mock exams and passed with a surprisingly good score of 88%. The material is very easy to follow and straight to the point. Highly recommended
