Summary: Great reference for seriously CISSP preparation
Review: I found the 'CISSP All-in-One Exam Guide' to be an excellent preparation guide for the CISSP exam.

For those that want broad, deep coverage of the CBK, this is the book. Each area is covered in great depth.

For those that want a more to the point reference with less departures from the main subject, they will likely want to go with 'The CISSP Prep Guide: Mastering the Ten Domains of Computer Security' by Ron Krutz.

Shon Harris does a good job of organizing and structuring the information.

The only problem I encountered was with the CD-ROM. I could not get it to install on either a laptop or a desktop.

Nevertheless, the 'CISSP All-in-One Exam Guide' is a great reference for anyone seriously preparing for the CISSP examination.

Summary: Excellent Coverage of the CBK
Review: This book is impressive with excellent coverage of the CBK. The book was filled with real life examples and analogies which made understanding the concepts much easier. The practice tests were an added bonus. Two thumbs up and a must have for both the exam and a reference.

Summary: All-in-one? Too much in one!
Review: I bought both this book and the CISSP Prep Guide. While neither can claim to be 100% comprehensive, CISSP All-in-One actually claims to be. It isn't, in fact, it's almost overkill in some senses. I'm busy, studying for this exam in whatever spare time I have. I much prefer the CISSP Prep Guide - it's very to the point and gives me just the right amount of questions, background on the domains and so on. I take the exam next month and feel very well prepared - but not from this book!

Summary: CISSP All in one exam guide
Review: I just purchased the CISSP All In One Exam Guide, I think this book has everything you need to know about the CISSP certification. Shon Harris did a very good job explaining the CBK.

Summary: This is THE definative CISSP study guide
Review: I've read most of the CISSP books out currently. The SRV books, Exam cram, prep guide, secured computing, and the first two infosecurity management handbooks. Out of all of them, this book is by far my favorite.

Shon Harris presents the information in very easy to understand terms and uses vivid analogies which helped me retain more of the information. With the other books I found the reading quite dry and often caught myself losing focus. The All-In-One book was much easier to digest. Those of you who have read Bruce Schneier's Secrets and Lies should have a good idea on the writers style.

Despite Amazon's information, this book comes in at 924 pages from the front to the glossary. While Chapter 12, Operations Security ends around page 840, there are almost 100 additionaly pages of interesting and relevant information. For the price I definately think this is the best buy around.

Summary: Just passed the exam with the help of this book!
Review: I am suprised at some of the comments on this site about how the questions are formatted and presented because I JUST took the exam and the format was exactly the same.

This is a full-figure book, meaning it gives you all the info needed to fully understand the objectives of the test, even if you are new to them. The bullet items at the back of the chapter pinpointed the important items from the chapter for me and then the questions really drove those concepts home.

I did not really like how the questions were necessarily presented in the book OR the test, but I just found out that they both present the questions in the same way, which better prepared me for this monster test.

Summary: Comprehensive but trying to put square peg in round hole
Review: I have purchased this book as well as the CISSP Prep Guide. This book indeed is comprehensive in regards to following the exam objectives however purporting that even an 800 page book can be a one-stop resource for passing the CISSP exam is a misnomer. The CISSP exam is not like getting an MCSE and is not like any other certification so the typical hundreds of review questions and traditional certification format included in this book really fall short of preparing you for the exam. I could have done without the review questions in the text and CD-ROM. The text questions seemed to be more testing if you understood what you just read, as opposed to helping prepare for the exam. The CD questions were redundant and not all that in-depth. It certainly organizes the information better than the ISC2 documentation, but the other book accomplishes this as well. The book is very dry so do not expect an engaging read. Overall, this book was a helpful review but the "certification extras" such as questions, review points etc. are more distracting than anything since they do not serve much purpose.

Summary: Best out of the three CISSP books I have bought
Review: I purchased the new SRV books, the CISSP Prep Guide, and just recently this book. The All in one guide out performs the others because of the amount of coverage of the subjects and the ease in comprehension.

The other books do not seem to go into the depth that this book does and is not half as interesting as this one. The amount of graphics and network schematics really helped me out in some of the more escoteric concepts.

I attended the ISC2 class late last year and I do feel this book provided more information and understanding than ISC2's very expensive class. ISC2 provides an outline of the information that may be on the exam, but not any real instruction.

I would recommend this book if you are serious about passing this exam.

Summary: Comprehensive and a 4 star book
Review: As a few people have mentioned, the book is very comprehensive and can be used beyond the CISSP exam. I like it a lot better than the other ones published and mentioned. I like the important points at the end of each chapter. The only problem with it is that I don't think the questions are well developed for exam purposes. Also, the questions in the CD ROM are redundant. But overall, I like it a lot and hope to use it beyond the exam. I think if I cover all the materials in this book and understand them, I should be fine for the exam.

Summary: More than a study guide
Review: I thought I was just buying a CISSP study guide, but it has turned out to be much, much more. There is a huge section that has really helped me out at my job that just deals with HIPAA. The information, table, and compliancy chart is amazing! This piece was a real bonus to what the book already provided for the exam.

The material seems extremely well written and laid out in one of the most understandable and comprehensive ways I have ever seen. It does not seem to be the ordinary study guide or security book. I do think I will use this as a reference even after the test, which is quite unusual.

This is really a home run for McGraw-Hill and this author!
