Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Strong effort
Review: This book is a bit chatty and not oriented towards the technical person.

It makes a nice fill-in book to other more potent sources.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: What an embarassment
Review: The book is full of spelling errors, grammar mistakes, and incorrect information. The Practice Exam Software included with it is just as bad. It is definitely not worth the price, find another book to buy.

Summary: Crucial information for the aspiring CISSP.
Review: This is the best book I've found for the review for the CISSP exam. The CD was rushed, as the publisher did not give Shon enough time to create it, but the text itself and the practice on the CDs should be a real help to anyone preparing for this very difficult exam. If you have a chance to attend a training session with Shon, go. She is an excellent teacher who obviously has a deep understanding of the subject matter that is covered by the CISSP exam.

Summary: Not even an editor could save this POS!
Review: Maybe Shon tried to get an editor to help her but, after looking at the draft, each turned her down. As Beavis and Butthead once said you can't polish a turd. The editor that rubber-stamped this one at the publishing house should be embarrassed.

There are hundreds of typos, dozens of "thinko's" and handfuls of out-and-out wrong statements. The diagrams in many of the chapters serve to only add pages to the book and many are misleading or unable to be interpreted at all. Some are simply cheesy clipart images that should utterly embarrass anyone who had a part in bringing this book to press. At points Shon tries to inject a humorous, down-to-earth, feminist style which only serves to irritate the reader. It's frosting on a cake that's not there. Get the content right, then and only then apply the extra crap.

A group of three of my peers and I purchased this book to serve as the cornerstone of our CISSP study group but we now find we have a book that is not only deficient but that is indeed simply wrong in many instances. We stopped bringing it to study group because it's just so distracting to point out how the three other sources we have get it right, and she finds a way to screw it up.

Save your money. The CISSP for dummies book is better than this junker and that's a really sad statement.

Summary: This book worked for me - passed first try
Review: Excellant book. I passed the exam first try. I did study for 3 months though so it's not just a read the book and take the test.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: If you want to pass the test read this book
Review: No kidding. I have a networking background of 20 years, but I would have failed the test if I hadn't reviewed this book. I spent 6 hours/day, for 6 days studying this book and taking the exam questions at the end of each chapter. I also recommend buzzing around the web for searches on test taking strategies for the cissp. Other than that I would contradict other reviewers and say that in addition to a good networking background (general knowledge of security wouldn't hurt either) this book is all you need. And yes I did pass the test!!

Summary: Well Written book!
Review: I thought this book was very well written. It hit all the main points of the 10 domains. However, this book alone is not sufficient to pass the CISSP exam. I would treat this more as a foundation to begin with. The only real knock against this book is that the sample questions at the end of each chapter are fairly easy complared to what you will encounter on the actual CISSP exam. My advice would be to read this book cover to cover and then get the SRV books as a compliment to this one.

Summary: Good, contains errors, reads easily
Review: This is a book I very much enjoyed reading.
The content is not always correct or complete, but I guess that is a problem that is found in most "all-in-one" books.
While reading this book I very often got distracted by the way the author got me involved in examples that take away the attention from the important information.
The chapter about Cryptography is not complete.
I do not believe it is possible to pass the CISSP exam with just this book.
It is a pity that there is no motivation with the solutions for the test questions. The solutions sections consist of a list of letters. If a question is troubling, this approach doesn't help.
Overall, this is a nice book. But it should not be the only reference you read on the subject.

Summary: All-In-One CISSP Certification
Review: If you are interested in PASSING the CISSP Exam, the only thing better than Shon's book is Shon in person! All-In-One keeps readers focused on the essential elements of an exam "one inch deep and five miles wide". Thanks Shon, from one CISSP to another! :)

Summary: Pass the CISSP Exam On Your First Try with this Study Guide!
Review: I recently passed the CISSP examination. However, I would not have passed without the aid of the CISSP All-in-One Exam Guide by Shon Harris. I used this book for 95% of my studying. The other 5% consists of using other acceptable, but otherwise, "average" review sources, such as the CISSP Prep Guide and CISSP for Dummies. The CISSP All-in-One Exam Guide is an AWESOME study guide because Ms. Harris explains the security concepts in this book using easy-to-understand analogies. She also presents concepts in ALL CBK areas in a detailed, but yet, most understandable and not overwhelming (in content) manner to the CISSP candidate. This is especially evident in the chapters on Cryptography and Network/Telecommunications Security, although all chapters in the exam guide are written in this manner. There are other CISSP Exam Prep books that have been published, such as the aforementioned CISSP Prep Guide. However, these books do not present enough information a candidate needs to know to pass the exam, or the concepts presented in these guides are difficult to understand because of the way they are presented.

Keep in mind, however, that the CISSP All-in-One Exam Guide is just one source needed to pass the exam. Experience in the IT security field is essential and needs to be relied on to pass the exam. Also, the CD-ROM included in this book is helpful, as the questions on disc are somewhat similar in difficulty to the questions on the actual exam.

IT Security experience, the CISSP All-in-One Exam Guide, and a good test taking strategy are the 3 keys to success in passing the CISSP exam. Hope this review helps. Good luck!
