Summary: An inspiring inspiration for aspiring leaders
Review: Developing the Leader Within You was a first rate book with an outstanding amount of useful and applicable knowledge. Dr. Maxwell guides the reader through the steps they need to become a leader such as solving problems effectively, learning to appreciate people, developing the right attitude and improving your leadership abilities and various other categories. One of the aspects I found useful was small activities interspersed within the chapters. These proved to be a way to gauge your progress at developing skills and also a nice break from reading the book. One of the most useful sections, to me, was the one on developing people. Dr. Maxwell provided specific ways in which leaders can motivate people and also tactics to avoid because they can de-motivate people. One of the traps I noticed myself falling into was thinking that success was based on luck, not planning. After reading this book I now realize that I do not have to wait around for a lucky break, but I can take action to make success happen. The book was easy to read and stayed away from text book like content. Dr. Maxwell interjected numerous quotes and stories which helped to keep my interest. He chose quotes from Charlie Brown to President Eisenhower to everyday people he encountered. Not only was the content helpful, but discovering fun bits of trivia was exciting. The only fault I found with this book was that Dr. Maxwell was sometimes a little vague in his descriptions on how to address certain issues. But as I read the book and understood his message more fully, I realized that he wants the readers to figure out the solutions for themselves. He provides the framework for us to become better leaders but each of us has to chose the best way for our personal styles. If you want to enhance your leadership ability, become better at working with people, or just improve yourself in general, I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed.

Summary: One of the Best!
Review: Finally, someone has written a a book about leadership that actually teaches how to lead. Maxwell give us practical hands on advise on how to be a leader in a succinct and readable form. In ten chapters he leads the read through the necessary steps for effective leadership.

Maxwell takes nothing for granted. Not only does he lay down principles and techniques, but unlike most leadership books, he also tells us the assumptions that they are based on. Developing the Leader Within You has proven to be one of the most helpful books I have read.

Summary: good book for regular people, not for seasoned leaders
Review: I bought this book after reading his "The 21 irrefutable laws of leadership". Since I knew nothing about leadership, this book was helpful for me, but as for somebody who already knows leadership, probably will not benefit this book. You will find these topics in this book
1. The Definition of Leadership: INFLUENCE
2. The key to Leaderhip: PRIORITIES
3. The most important ingredient of Leadership: INTEGRITY
4. The ultimate test of Leadership: CREATING POSITIVE CHANGE
5. The extra plus in Leadership: ATTITUDE
6. Developing your most appreciable asset: PEOPLE

If this something you never heard of before, and new to leadership, buy it. for others, look for different books. This book is not only useful to just positioned leaders, but for all people who desire to take control of their life. I think this book would be better for a regular Joe then to a good leader.

leadership is about influence. So to learn influence, these books are very helpful: "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale C. and "The 7 habits of highly effective people" by Stephen R. Covey

Summary: TERRIFIC
Review: I have read numerous books on leadership, and attitudes, and this is by far the best one I have ever read. It was hard to put down the book, because of the entertaining way it was written. Mr. Maxwell uses a ton of great quotations, and stories to get his point across.

If you are going to spend money on any book about leadership, make sure that you buy this one. You will truly love it.

Summary: Catch Up & Lead!
Review: If you have ever had someone aprroach you and say "You are a natural born leader," add this book to your shopping cart. Practical in it's entire content, it will give you ideas and concepts I'm sure you will adopt. Maxwell also makes this book easy to read, filled illustrations and stories.

Summary: A magnificent book on leadership.
Review: In four years I have read this book many times. My original copy is dog-eared and tatty from repeated readings. We bought hundreds of copies for our clients, all of whom are now becoming better leaders. I sent a copy to the General Manager of a resort hotel. He bought a copy for all his heads of departments. I have never met a person who has read 'Developing The Leader' who did not love it. Every aspiring politician should receive a copy and be tested on it before being allowed to hold office.

Summary: Among the Best of what's on the market
Review: John Maxwell is a renouned author and well respected voice in the whole training and building up of leaders. He is a leader's leader who teaches from his knowledge, experience and everything he's learned in his lifetime.

This book can serve anybody tremendously. Maxwell is a Christian pastor, yet other than the few references he makes to being a pastor, you'd never know it. He writes very practically and down to earth so that anyone from any faith or belief system can benefit from this book. if you are not currently a leader this book won't benefit you much now, but if you've got this stuff down for when you come into leadership you'll have a tremendous advantage in life.

This book made me realize what it is to be a leader. It made me realize that it's not as much what you do but more who you are that is the foundation of true leadership. I believe all leaders and future leaders can benefit greatly by reading this book. If there is one book you'll ever read on the topic of leadership, you should consider making this that book. You will benefit from it and learn a lot of handy tips from it. I first read this book in bible school and am very glad that this was manditory reading. John Maxwell is a fantastic author that has so much to teach. Too much not for others to take advantage of the knowledge he's giving away.

Summary: Develop your leadership awareness
Review: Maxwell has written several excellent books on leadership. This book works best for the aspiring leader and is a valuable addition to any library on leadership. Another first-rate book which provides the foundation to optimize personal leadership and bring out the best in others, is Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self. Our managers have copies of both books.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Leadership can be developed
Review: Maxwell provides the tools any aspiring leader can use to develop themselves. By emulating the skills of those who have achieved success, we can develop these skills. This book delivers the message in a clear, succinct way. Read it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Easy to read and relevant for any current or future leader
Review: Not only great reading but also down to earth, very practical advice, instruction with many references. This is a "How to do it" for anyone who is leading today (or thinks they are) or for those contemplating this line of service to others.
