Rating: Summary: Not what I had expected Review: After having read the above reviews on this book as well as seeing it as a Listmania recommendation, I decided to order it. The book gets off to a great start, in fact, I initially stayed up most of the night reading it and laughing out loud! The beginning was hilarious and I could truely relate to the author's thoughts, feelings and experiences such as the "What Color is Your Parachute" reference and the calculus class incident!! As the story went on, my stress level grew (and probably my BP, too!)and it became less enjoyable. His PA career is depressing and I grew frustrated with his poor decisions and the trust that he placed in people. I know that he is only telling his story, but I would not recommend this to any aspiring NP or PA as they will surely turn away from this profession. Although, this could also be a lesson in what not to do your first 20 years out of school! I kept reading on because I thought that there had to be some sort of end to all of the madness, and because I paid [item price] for this book! He goes into so much detail about the bad things that happened (which are not typical), and then, in the last 15 or so pages (almost 400 pages in the book) quickly wraps things up with a "happy ending" in which he really never gives much detail. I guess that this book really wasn't what I had expected and I don't recommend spending [item price] for it.****Later Entry: I came back to read other reviews on this book after I had posted mine and the review written by the amazon.com customer in Ashland, Ohio HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!! Thank you!
Rating: Summary: Simply a great book Review: Although I enjoyed the book, I found myself at times, furious at the author for not getting out of the bad situations sooner. But that's easy to say, since I wasn't there. Perhaps his persistence during these situations should be a lesson for others dealing with bad situations, and difficult people.

Rating: Summary: Not what I was led to expect from other reviews Review: As someone considering PA school, I was excited to find this book on Amazon and eagerly ordered a copy. I must say I was disappointed. The bulk of the book is about the author's woeful tales of his missionary experience and house remodeling projects. In fact, of the first 260 pages of the book, I felt only about 30 - 50 were about PA school/profession. There's probably at least 100 pages about learning Arabic and living in Egypt while being jerked around by a missionary group. Although the book seems to span a few decades, the author doesn't mention specific years, so it was hard compare his experiences finding a job and his relationships with other medical providers with the evolution of the PA profession. I do admire the adventurous, do-all spirit of the author. But others readers should realize that the book is more the tale of his life than a picture of the PA profession. The book is anecdotal, not analytical. I don't think the title reflects the book's content. The author has a corny sense of humor. The cover artwork is nice.
Rating: Summary: great book! Review: Finally, a personal, realistic and hilarious look at life as a mid-level clinician. I loved this book and could relate to many of the experiences Mr. Jones described. I'd definitely recommend this to Physician Assistants, PA students, NPs, their families, and anyone considering entering the PA profession.
Rating: Summary: Kernal Review: I found this book to be thoroughly enjoyable. It is a well-written look into other cultures and into the politics of the medical system. I laughed. I cried. I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Right on target Review: I have been out of nursing school for twenty-one years. I have to say, this book was the most honest account I have ever seen about the day to day life of medical practice. No glossing over here. I would reccomend it to anyone who works in medicine. I thought I would crack a rib from laughing. Then I thought I would blow a cork from my anger at characters in the story. But it was very entertaining. It should be a "must read" for anyone considering becoming a Nurse, a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant. The doctors should read it too! As I was getting ready to post my review, I noticed that the last reviewer said that she was frustrated at the author's "poor choices" during the story. I didn't read it that way at all. The bad things that happened to him, were the results of other people's "poor choices." This was a story of good triumphing over evil. Mr. Jones used his fine-tuned humor to navigate some dark corners. But these experiences are the type that we all face, once we have enough life under our belts. All I can say is thanks for the story. I am now reading it for the second time. T.N.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I highly recommend this book to anyone seriously considering the PA profession. Michael Jones decribes every experience, good and bad, that he had as a student and a working PA.
Rating: Summary: You don't have to be in the medical field to enjoy this book Review: I laughed myself silly and then cryed with the Jones family. I think that life is sometimes stranger than fiction. I found it spellbinding. I think that Mike's ability to land on his feet at times when it seemed impossible to do so was remarkable. I would recommend for anyone (not just those in the medical field) to read as a comment how one person can overcome discouraging circumstances.
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: Mike's book is a must read for both PA and nurse practitioner students as well as for graduates of both professions.. Med students would love it also. It chronicles the trials and tribulations of a real world PA. Wonderful read.
