Rating: Summary: Cold Zero Review: I thorougly enjoyed Chris' journey. His lanaguage and descriptive style transported the reader to each specific locale. The ending was somewhat spokey as one would have thought it was written after September 11. Having worked with Chris 16 years ago, I am pleased that he has has managed to give to his family, his country and to us, his audience.
Rating: Summary: A compelling read......... Review: Chris Whitcomb is one hell of a fine writer. This book reads extremely well and tells a fine story of a man committed to doing good by going after bad guys. His way of putting things into words makes even the most mundane task either humorous, or much more interesting - - usually both. He's a writer that became a cop, instead of the other way around. You can tell the difference........Steve Waterman, author of JUST A SAILOR
Rating: Summary: From Bang to Brains Review: Chris Whitcomb delivers a taught, compelling account of life in the FBI's elite, quasi-military HRT unit. If you were concered, as I was, about what would happen when participants in the FBI's polarizing military operations in the mid-nineties rose to positions of leadership, this book will give you comfort. Whitcomb's best investigative work as a junior agent involved brains and effective communications. After a five year detour into flash bangs, machine guns and helicopters, he goes back to basics with a new level of committment and wisdom. Whitcomb's role by books end is to manipulate the media. Clearly, he and his experts have scrubbed this book and taken away the rough edges, but what remains is quite good. Eerily, the book closes with an account of a (domestic) terrorist attack on New York City. . .
Rating: Summary: Chilling and thrilling Review: Whitcomb not only weaves an incredible story of bravery, patriotism, endurance and technical know-how, but he also informs and educates the reader. Most of us have formulated our opinion and understanding of the FBI from the movies and television. I for one feel as though I have a better understanding of, and respect for, what the agents are doing in the field today. After the events of 9-11, I'm relieved to know that highly trained and motivated federal agents are on the trail of the terrorists. Whitcomb has let the country know that the FBI has the right stuff to get the job done.
Rating: Summary: Classic Review: I promise this book is worth every penny. I could not put it down. I'm still laughing about the way he describes some of his experiences, especially the trailer visit in his pursuit of two brothers who are bank robbers. My father is a retired FBI Agent so I know about the life of an Agent, but being a member of the HRT is a different story. When you think you have it rough, just read some of the training and missions Mr. Whitcomb has to take part in. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in law enforcement. I hope we see more books from him in the future.
Rating: Summary: Amazing account Review: Christopher Whitcomb has written an amazing account of his life and involvement with the HRT. The book is a very fast read filled with excitement, anticipation, facts and a touch of humor. Looking forward to his next book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: An excellent overview. Mr. Whitcomb was on Art Bell last night, and he was both honest and articulate. His descriptions of what happened at Ruby Ridge and at the Branch Davidian compound are both reasonable and sincere. Yes, conspiracy theorists and other anti-government folks may disagree with Whitcomb, but his observations are compelling and well thought-out..................
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: Chris Whitcomb has done a tremdous job, being his first book. He has given the reader an opportunity to understand and feel the workings of an FBI agent. One can laugh, cry, and almost feel the action happening to you. We thank Chris for sharing his personal and professional life with the readers and may he continue to write wonderful stories, such as this one. He can certainly be rated up front with Tom Clancy books. May God watch over you and bless you no matter what edeaver you undertake in the years ahead.
Rating: Summary: Best of its genre Review: Without a doubt, Cold Zero is the best work ever about its topic. Whitcomb tells it like it was, and is today. He shows the reader the real world of various positions in the FBI. For the first time, the reader is given a true look into the FBI application process and the new agent academy. He explains tactics, and the reasons for them, as well as thier limitations and advantages. He goes into great detail to take the reader on the path of New Operator Training School (NOTS) for the Hostage Rescue Team. The reader truely sees the pain, both physical and mental a new operator endures. Whitcomb also gives the reader an accurate, but not overdone, rundown of the weapons the HRT has at its disposal. Along the way the reader learns that a job with the FBI is not all roses. Whitcomb details the family hardships and upheaval an agent will always eventually face. He also thoroughly details his, and the HRT's, role in Ruby Ridge and at Waco, TX. The reader learns that there really are ghosts that follow these brave operators around after such massive events like Waco. Whitcomb is well prepared for further writings. His style will reach both young and old I feel. I cannot recommend this book any higher.
Rating: Summary: MORE MEAT AND POTATOES!!!! Review: Christopher Whitcomb comes out of the gate STRONG in his first writing effort. This is no fluff piece. He pulls no punches and gives it to you straight from the inside, I found it hard to believe that this did not come from a seasoned writer. This is one of those books you just can't put down and you will be out buying copies for Christmas gifts for all your family and friends who wear a badge or just BACK THE BLUE!!!
