Summary: Required reading for all teachers -- and parents!
Review: I had to read this book as well as Dangerous Minds for an Education class. This book is tremendously well written and worth reading even if you are not an educator.

Summary: Extraordinary!
Review: I have taught school for 28 years. In Tulsa, Ok we were required to read Marva Collins'Way prior to the start of each yr. at Faith Christian Academy. Now that I have my own school in my home, I re-read it each year. It brings new insight to my profession of teaching school. This book is a MUST for all teachers who desire excellence in their teaching ability. My greatest desire is to meet Marva Collins, to express to her, what her book has meant to me ever since 1984. This book holds a place of honor on my personal bookshelf, beside my desk. God bless you, Marva. You have done well. Many of my students are now pastors, missionaries and teachers, in the USA and abroad.Think of your influence in these professions!!!

Summary: Excellent!!!
Review: I highly recommend this book for every educator and parent. It is inspirational and long overdue. As I read the book all I could say was "SHE'S GOOD!!!!". Her emphasis on phonics as the basic building blocks for literacy, her continual praise and feedback, and her belief in her students are comendable. This book has allowed me to make significant changes in the way that I approach education with my child. America can learn a lot from this extraordinary teacher who has made a difference.

Summary: Soon to be teacher loves her books!
Review: I live in Seattle, and I first found this book 2 years ago. I was sold on the idea, but the school I was in wouldn't help me integrate her methodology in my discipline program. I kept persistant, reading her other 2 books, and after changing schools, I decided that the only way to use her methodology effectively is to work for one of her schools. I applied at the Milwaukee School via email and was hired without a face to face interview because of my knowledge and love of her values and desire to implement them. I start in late June as a teacher assistant. This has to be the greatest opportunity secularly! Read more about her Milwaukee school in the Milwaukee Sentinel Online, and search Marva Collins. You'll find a long article about a reporter who spend a semester as an assistant to see what it was like. Great positive article! Go Marva!

Summary: This book should be read by every parent and teacher.
Review: I purchased Marva Collins' Way after hearing Ellen Kriedman, Ph.D., rave about it on her tape series, Light Her Fire. After reading it, I am more convinced than ever that our public and private educational systems need a major overhaul and Marva Collins has the prescription for bringing a success-oriented attitude into classrooms across America.

Every parent who cares about his child and every teacher who cares about his students should read this book. It demonstrates what I have always believed. Every child is important enough, valuable enough for the adults in his life to bring a serious investment of time, effort and enthusiasm to the task developing that child's character and ability.

Don't miss this great book!

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I read MARVA COLLINS' WAY years ago and began rereading it recently as I
added it to my Top 10 Homeschooling Books list... With great literature and
love Marva turned ghetto children around to self respect and a love of
learning. She tells her students on the first day of school, "I promise, you
are going to do, you are going to produce. I am not going to let you fail."
Her philosophy is evident as she goes on, "I am a teacher. A teacher is

someone who leads. There is no magic here. Mrs. Collins is no miracle
worker. I do not walk on water, I do not part the sea. I just love children
and work harder than a lot of people, and so will you. You will...

1) Read hard books in here and understand what you read. You will...

2) Write every day so that writing becomes second nature to you.

3) You will memorize a poem every week so that you can train your minds to
remember things."

She goes on to tell her students that success will not come to them but they
will go to it, and that the first thing that they are going to do is a lot
of believing in themselves.

Marva learned to read from the Bible as her grandmother sounded out words by
syllables. Her introduction to literature was from that same Bible. Her
grandmother also recited poems that she had learned as a girl, such as "Paul
Revere's Ride" and "Hiawatha." Marva treasured books; absolutely loved
reading and read everything she could get her hands on. A age nine, she was
thrilled with the words from Shakespeare that her aunt recited, and read all
of Macbeth.

Her black family--from Alabama--was atypical for that time: they were
affluent. Her father, a diligent businessman was her greatest example.
Although Marva taught for a short time at a trade school she said she didn't
know anything about educational theory and believed that was to her
advantage.

Summary: I found it to be an excellent book for all teachers!!
Review: I really did enjoy reading this book for class. It inspired me on how to approach my students in a positive way, and how to view my skills as far as becoming a teacher. Mrs. Collins Way used tecniques to more are less motivate the kids to study, read, and write. I recommend every teach in the US to read it and base your teaching skills by this book. I plan on using it to guide me, as i approach my life as a teacher. Our main goal as educators, is to make sure each student believes in him/herself and puts forth the effort to become whatever they chose to be.

Summary: Education, no matter on what scale, maximizes a child's world
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ms. Collins book. It helped to cultivate my want of becoming a teacher. I would recommend this reading to young and old. Education is a necessity and this work exemplifies what hard work, perserverance , committment , and dedication in education can lead to in life.
