Summary: Excellent Book
Review:
Once again Torey Hayden writes a book that is hard to put down, filled with emotion and makes the reader really think. The story centers on a teacher that tries to help a child through a devastating time in her life. This is a real page turner.
Other books to look for: Nightmares Echo by Katlyn Stewart, One Child by Torey Hayden and A Child Called It by David Pelzer

Review: "Ghost girl" was the first book from Torey Hayden i read and i think, no, i'm sure five stars aren't enough for this exceptional book ! It was so poignant and beautiful... full of emotions ! I couldn't stop reading this extraordinary true story ! This poor little girl to whom something we don't know had happened was so touching... Who i admire the most is Torey Hayden. She does such a hard job ! However, she likes or perhaps rather love it. I agree with her that take care about this kind of children is something very special, sometimes hard to do but really wonderful ! If anyone can tell me how to get in touch with this great psychologist who is Torey Hayden contact me, please ! One last word for Torey Hayden : Go on doing this wonderful job you do !!!

Summary: Warning adults only
Review: ...This book is disturbingly graphic with scenes of animal torture, graphic sex and satanism. I don't think it should be read by anyone other than adults. It was so upsetting to read what Jadie went through and I think there should be a warning on the front cover about the explicit and graphic nature of the contents. ... a very disturbing book....

Summary: A hauntingly real story...
Review: A hauntingly real story of a child in need who reaches out, and the gifted teacher that helps her. Torey Hayden has a wonderful way of pulling you into her life as it happened, and allows you to experience the pain as well as the joy of her work. I highly recommend this book to educators or people who are in contact with children labelled "emotionally disturbed". Way to go Torey!

Summary: Another Masterpiece And Miracle By Torey Hayden
Review: A sad sad story, but inspiring to see the the change in Janie. I cried, I laughed at Jeremiah, I was amazed by Torey's patience.. and her ability to save yet another child's life. Without Torey who knows what would have become of Jadie and I'm glad to know that Torey is not alone in her quest to help kids. She's one of my role models and I think the world needs more Torey Hayden's in it.

Summary: 5 stars aren't enough
Review: A truly inspiring book, I could not put it down. "Ghost Girl" is the most incredible case of child abuse/disturbance that I have ever come across. I am looking forward to reading more of her books. I know I won't be disappointed.

Summary: Chilling
Review: After reading this book I crawled into bed and stayed up all night long wondering. In psychology ritual abuse is consdered a boogey man of sorts. They think it might be out there but no one is willingly to admit it might. No one wants to look the fool. No one wants to be the first to yell that the sky is falling.

This story develes into this and other posibilities such as kiddy porn rings. Either way it's stunning and graphic. I wouldn't recommend it for teens or younger kids though because it IS graphic.

Summary: It will keep you up at night...
Review: Another Torey masterpiece! This is one of the most haunting, chilling books I have ever read. Jadie's words, her stories of the horrible, unspeakable ritualistic abuse she has suffered... Makes my skin crawl. And as always, Torey's amazing way of reaching the unreachable has touched my heart. This book (along with all her others) strengthens my feelings of fascination for emotionally disturbed children like Jadie... That "rush" that goes through me is what fuels my desire to become a SpEd teacher and devote all that I can to children! Be sure to also check out One Child, if you haven't yet done so! (It was *required* reading for one of my college courses last semester -- I was overjoyed! :-)) Britta

Summary: A must reed for future educators
Review: As a future member of the special education team, I picked up this book of my own accord with no real expectations. I come from a background where i've seen both sides of the special education system and have seen many teachers fail with children like Jadie. Ms. Hayden proves to be an incredible example and roll model for current and future special educators. In her work with elective mutes she had the courage to break away from the beaten path. She had the patience to work with the most difficult children. This book is a wonderful example of the difference one individual can make in the life of another. Sure we may see some horror seens along the way, but it is increasingly rewarding each time even slight improvements can be made for a child. Hayden's work may seem disturbing to some readers, and it's true. She deals with some very heated topics in her novel. But it's important for the reader to remember that the issues discussed in Ghost Girl happen, weather we like to admit it or not. Hayden's gift of writing helps the reader see into her classroom and feel the emotions right along with her.
Now a special education graduate student and teaching assistant, this book along with Hayden's "One Child" have made their way onto the required reading list for my Intro to Special Education course. A must read for any current or future member of the special education team.
