Summary: The most logical book ever written about war.
Review: An extremely understandable book when compared to most Ancient Chinese writings. Even if you are not interested in war, this book is wonderful. It makes you fearless and gives everyone a touch of ingenuity.

Summary: Absolutely Excellent
Review: This is an excellent book that explains war in layman's terms, and provides an excellent portrait of Chinese history and military thought both Ancient and Modern (thanks to extensive prefaces and appendixes). With this excellent translation, nothing is left cryptic. There's no wonder why this edition is still by far the most popular even after 15 years, but the book would be good in a lesser degree no matter who translated it.

Read it today!

Anyone who would give this edition a bad review or dislike it is obviously not headed for any significant position in life.

Summary: A timeless piece of history written for the future.
Review: I cannot remember who introduced me to "The Art of War", but I know I could not hold onto the book for very long. Each friend I thought would benefit from the ancient words of Sun Tzu received a copy from me. I went through seven copies before buying the hard cover for my collection.

I found James Clavell's version quite difficult to find, but well worth it - due to clarity of reading and balance.

I tried reading Cleary's version, but could not get through the first chapter. However, I did purchase "Mastering the Art of War" by Cleary; finding it a better tour guide.

Clavell's "Art of War" offers tactical insight on overcoming an opponent whether it be war, work, relationships, or your own personal demons.

Sun Tzu created a timeless piece of history written for the future. I personally feel that today's society needs to look back, master the art of war, in order to repair the future.

Today I'm buying book #9 for a person who inspired me... I wanted to return the favor.

Review: The context in which it is written makes it seem so simple yet it is not

Summary: Best read
Review: An amazing, fun and sagelike book about the many different aspects of conflict. A must read for business or war.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An outstanding and relevant review of world sucess tactics.
Review: Whether it is in business, personal life or self discipline, Sun Tzu's seminal work is immensly relevent for self advancement. One of the few 'philosophy' books without the undigestable philosophy. Brilliant.

Summary: A note on translations
Review: The best translation of Sun Tzu's work is by R. L. Wing because he captures best the nuance of the Chinese meaning of the text. Griffith's translation is good as he includes notes from other sources (other ancient Chinese strategists) to give the reader multiple interpretations of the text.

Summary: A Best Seller for over 2,000 years!
Review: 2,500 years later, this book is still the best book ever written on war and strategy.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An all time Great
Review: This is the ultimate guide to war,and although most of its premises seem like common sense, it is amazing how many times in history they have been ignored. Definitely an ingenious look at strategy that still holds true today. Give this book half the chance, and you stand to gain a lot. Don't read it and you're missing an opportunity of a lifetime.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: theory of war made simple!
Review: without great analysis or effort for theorizing
a recipe book for war; you can use it as a cookbook
