Summary: Great Doctor, Great Book!
Review: As a long-time patient of Dr. Vern Cherewatenko, I can honestly say that the nine steps that he lists in this book are right on the money. I am at risk for Type II diabetes due to family history. Dr. Vern, his associate Dr. MacDonald, and I have been working to ensure that I do not end up with diabetes. The HCA mentioned is something that I highly recommend for anyone, diabetic or not. It has been instrumental in my 15 pound weight loss (in 12 months). Keep up the good work, Dr. Vern.

Summary: Practical book about a very common disease
Review: As an adult-onset diabetic, recently, I have been interested in learning more about what supplements might be helpful. This led me to Dr. Cherewatenko's book, "The Diabetes Cure." It is the best book on diabetes which I have ever read! It is written in a very clear and concise fashion that everyone can understand. The information presented is straight forward and very logical. The author makes you feel that it is more than possible to successfully overcome the dangers of living with diabetes. I highly recommend this book to any and all diabetics who want to begin attacking their disease armed with a great ally - information and knowledge regarding important additional weapons at our disposal.

Summary: INACCURATE
Review: For those of you know are not aware of this, THERE IS NO CURE FOR DIABETES ONCE YOU HAVE IT (short of a pancreas transplant) I can't believe this author would make such a claim. As far as slowing or stopping it, save your money. Information about how to lower your risk is widely available FREE from many sources including the internet. For example, just follow a sensible meal plan like the American Diabetes Association advises and you can lower your risk of getting this disease. But as far as "curing" it? Nope. Not true. Talk about false advertising. What a snake oil salesman. Again, I repeat, THERE IS NO CURE.

Summary: The most proactive diabetes book
Review: I am a person with Type II diabetes that had been able to treate the disease with diet. My blood sugars were starting to get out of the acceptable range when I got this book. I followed the recomendations listed in the book and my blood sugars are all back to normal now. I have also lost weight with the system. All I can say is that it works for me. I have never felt better in years. This may be the best book for people with Yype II diabetes.

Summary: TWO DOCTORS SAY I AM CURED
Review: I have not yet read the *whole* book in detail. However, I have browsed it, particularly the nutritional advice.

IMO, the information about using the combination of hydroxycitric acid and chromium is worth perhaps the price of a *used* copy of this book. Otherwise, most of his nutritional advice basically reads like warmed-over anti-fat, anti-cholesterol hysteria. This guy needs to read more about the low-carbohydrate way of life. That said, other readers may find more of value in this book than I did.

I would recommend, instead, (1) Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution, by Dr. Richard K. Bernstein, and (2) the newest Atkins book on diabetes. The Bernstein book is a very comprehensive resource on managing diabetes (type I and II). The Atkins book continues to have very good advice on the low-carbohydrate way of life. Bernstein, by the way, is a type I diabetic who not only has far outlived the original prediction for life expectancy for type I diabetics, but he is a pioneer in the use of blood glucometers (by patients) to keep blood sugars tightly controlled.

Summary: The most proactive diabetes book
Review: Nice update on diabetes, especially compared to older books on the market. I was recently diagnosed as Type 2 and this was part of a voracious education campaign. Author presents a nine point process to take charge. It worked for me, but then diet and exercise are the core of any successful diabetes management program. Main point in this book is the addition of HCA/chromium as a dietary supplement. Does it work? Don't know for sure, but my glucose went from 250 to 125 in two weeks, although I'm still on Glucophage. His case studies are positive. Main thing I got out of the book was: "The cure is better than the disease."

Summary: V. Harris has head up butt
Review: Obviously V. Harris doesnt know diddly about the fundementals of insulin resistance. Most people have a Pancreas that is still creating insulin. Their systems just cannot accept it. A new Pancreas would not help these people as it is not their problem.

Keep on being negative V.Harris. Take your drug company meds and say "There is no hope". It will serve you well.
