Summary: Mostly Common Knowledge And Fluff
Review: If you picked up this book to help you build your existing business or build a new one, you might be disappointed. Since your thinking of starting your own business, then you should know that most small businesses fail within the first five years. The author hits on some reasons why they fail but most of these you already know. Do you know that if you are not organized, if you don't change or create new ideas or plans and become stagnat or if you force yourself to do every task yourself, your business will be limited in growth and may eventually fail? Right there is the first 25% of the book fit into one sentence. Then he goes onto his love affiar with turn key businesses. But when he starts talking about his favorite business it should make a reader nervous. He starts talking about the great sucess of McDonalds fast food restuarant franchise. McDonalds is a great success and one to be looked at carefully but not for the reasons he points out. It's apparent he has not been in a McDonalds all that often. He mentions that at McDonalds they depend on consistancy at all their chains. For example the fries stay in the fryer for ten minutes "a soggy french fry is not a McDonald's french fry". At any McDonalds a customer knows what to expect. Then he goes into mention that this is why McDonalds chain resturant is more successfull than those businesses that depend on trade name recognition. I'm sorry this throws a red flag. People eat there beacuse it is fast and it is [not expensive}, not becuase of consistant service. They make a large profit because they keep costs down. I do believe that McDonalds spends a large budget on trade name recognition, I have seen many commercials for McDonalds within the last year; particularly with the Olympics. This whole section undermines the rest of the author's book. If you know that a large section is misleading or biased it makes it difficult to listen to the rest the ideas without already being judgemental. I admit that I am not the smartest business person but its clear Michael Gerber isn't either.

Summary: Eye-Opening Page Turner!
Review: Like a lot of people, I've often thought about starting my own business. But, it's a big step and the thought of failure--time, money, emotional investment--has always haunted me. So, I was really comforted by this book because it answers a lot of my concerns. I'm a lot more confident about my ideas now, but I found Guerilla PR: Wired answering my concerns about getting my name out on the Internet better than E-Myth.

Summary: The E-Myth Book Changed My Business
Review: Michael Gerber, unknown to me until I read this book, is now at the top of my "Read Again" list.

Gerber's approach is simple: Any business of any kind can be made "owner-friendly" by the simple adoption of the same principles used in successful franchise operations such as McDonalds, etc. In a lyric, almost poetic presentation, Gerber leads a fictitious business owner through the process of changing her pie shop from a drudge to a new dream, explaining to her why she has fallen in to the trap of the "Entrepreneurial Myth."

This is one of the finest business book I've read in a long time. It not only gives plenty of good information on how to apply its principles; it also allows the reader to get more information through The E-Myth Academy.

The new business I am starting, as well as the one I now operate, are already on firmer footing, thanks to this book.

Summary: A "must-read" for would be/exisiting business owners
Review: Read this book before any other. It will give the information you need to build your business and how not to become a slave to it.

If you are already stuck in a business, this book will help you see the light at the end of the tunnel.

If you follow this book you will be on your way to less headaches and financial freedom.

Summary: Too much waffle & dreadful story telling style
Review: Useful business management content but incredibly diluted through the story telling style and waffle. Its like reading a novel in places and gets pretty tedious.

His points could have been put succinctly in 50 pages, instead it gets dragged out for far too long.

Disappointing.

Summary: Amazing! I was truly inspired!
Review: Was recommended this book by a multi-millionaire (Brad Sugars). Bought the book & started reading. Initially it annoyed me because he's so good at explaining why your small business ISN'T working. I was amazed at the whole concept of the book. It really does give great ideas for you to apply immediately to your business. I envy those who read this book before starting their business. I keep picking it up to review the ideas given. This book is a MUST read.

Summary: A fantastic short read. Highly recommended
Review: What a great little book. I highly recommend this to ANY person owning their own small business. Some people may say that Gerber's "franchise" or "systematic" philosophy of business ownership doesn't apply to all, but I completely disagree. There is something for EVERYONE in this book.

Buy it. More importantly, USE it.
