Rating: Summary: Arts and Facts...Kids Love 'em Review: While writing this book, I discovered some amazing factoids that I knew children would enjoy if transformed into easy art projects they could do with little adult help! For example, did you know that the undersea coral of Figi is some of the most colorful in the entire world? Okay, let's paint a watercolor painting in pinks, purples and yellow like the coral of Figi! Then outline the shapes with a marking pen, and you have an interpretive work of art. Another one? Why, sure! The French perfected fancy perfumed soaps, so let's sculpt soap shapes from left-over scraps of bar soap that is first soaked to soften and then pressed flat and cut with cookie cutters! Kids can learn interesting things from Global Art, but more important, they can be creative while learning. Let's face it: The most important thing about this book !!really!! is that it is easy fun art for kids of all ages.I have never known a child in all my years of teaching and consulting who did not find art to be wonderful, especially open-ended art that supports the premise that the process is far more important than the finished product any day. Now let's construct a full-size imaginative anaconda snake out of an old bedsheet inspired from a real anaconda from Brazil!
Rating: Summary: Global Art Review: A very resourful book. The authors misspell Colombia.
Rating: Summary: Love those Kohl books. Review: I enjoy all of MaryAnn F. Kohl's books, and this one is a little different than her others as it has a bit more in the way of finished products, though they are all arrived at by discovering and creating. Still, this book works well for those older kids who want a little more "fact" in their art. My favorite chapter revolves around Asian projects, in particular those from Japan.
Rating: Summary: Kids Love to be Fascinated Review: Thanks for the help! My kids love to be fascinated, as do all kids, and this book makes it easy. I love how the chapters are organized by continents, and how the projects are not so much copying crafts from different countries, but actually incorporate history and inventions and all kinds of things from different countries into simple, easy to do art projects. The chapter on Antarctica is a kick! It's all projects about snow and ice and white paint. My kids love it! Works for all ages, too, from preschool through about age twelve I would think.
Rating: Summary: Not A Mention Of Islamic-Arabic Art? Wow Sombody's Biased Review: The Global Art book barely mentions an Iraqi and Iranian piece of art however it chooses to limit the children's scope from Islamic art. I view this as another biased piece of work that is keen on dividing the world rather than a simple tool for educating children about the world or so called "GLOBAL ART".
