Summary: Selling Graphic Design
Review: I have been in the graphic arts industry for over twenty years. As director of client services for a successful design firm. I found the information in Sparkman's book to be invaluable. He gives advice on how to position a company for maiximum results. He also shares his knowledge of how to conduct business in both the print and internet arenas. I would highly recommend this book to designers and marketeers.

Summary: If You Work In Design, You MUST Have This Book!
Review: I started my own graphic design business three years ago and I don't think I could have done it without this book. Although I had worked for other people for years, I had never written a proposal, sought out clients, or had to promote a company before. Selling Graphic Design explains the terms and trade customs, as well as the best-practices that can make all the difference between being a money-making designer and being a starving artist.

If I ever meet Don Sparkman personally, the first words out of my mouth will be "Thank you!"

Summary: Super graphic design insights
Review: Last year, I read a Critique magazine article on the best 85 books for designers recommended by some of the top people in
ingraphic design. This book was one of two that I ordered and was the BEST by a long shot for me. I wanted to freshen up my approach to marketing my public relations firm. This book gave me a different perspective and some great ideas that are working for me. It was a bargain and is filled with solid business
thinking and ideas.

Summary: Selling Graphic Design
Review: Selling Graphic Design is an excellent book for the beginner or seasoned professional. As the office manager for a graphic design company, I work with the design staff, clients, printers, and service bureaus. This book has given me an in-depth look at many facets of the field of graphic design. Also, being the Webmaster of the company's Website, I thoroughly enjoyed the interview with John Waters

Summary: Keep by your side as a great reference tool!
Review: Selling Graphic Design was a recommended read in a national industry newsletter that I subscribe to. The credibility for the book was already "5 stars" in my mind due to the fact that this newsletter has saved me many, many hours of wasted production and research time which ultimately turns in to $$. I picked up the book and was fascinated with the information that was covered. Again, I looked at what I paid for the book and felt like I got the bargain of the year! Not only are business issues covered in this book, but a lot of graphic and printing basics that we all need to be reminded of now and then. The volume of resources provided to the user is beyond words. Thanks Mr. Sparkman for writing such a great motivational and great reference tool that we all can understand and relate to.

Summary: Keys to Success
Review: The business of graphic design has changed drastically in the last few years and many of us feel we are looking at a locked door without any keys. Don Sparkman's 2nd edition takes a practical and step-by-step approach to giving you those keys to selling your design services. Whether you have been in business two minutes or twenty years, you need the current protocols for getting clients to hire you because the old ones don't work anymore! Pay attention to turning cold calls into warm calls in Chapter 3, "other elements" in Chapter 8 and every word of Chapter 11.

Summary: an editing tragedy...
Review: What a disappointment! If you can get past the lame comments such as "Printers are as different as people, because they are people!" or the multitudes of typos that occur in this poorly written and edited piece of trash, then good for you! This author claims he paid someone to proofread his manuscript; the proofer must be blind because I've compiled over 25 typos in this book. Page 160 inexplicably jumps to page 193 (Appendix I "Where the Clients Are") and then, this Appendix repeats itself all over again at the end of the book. The words of wisdom from Mr. Sparkman are few and far between--it was tough to gleam anything worthwhile from this book. I suggest Mr. Sparkman sticks to what he does best--designing--rather than writing about it. I can't believe I paid over $18.00 for this careless and unthoughtful book. -Anne L. B. Hanso
