Review: Seventeen innovative public spaces, devised for European cities over the past decade, are described and evaluated in this collection of features from Topos, the German landscape magazine. It's a lively mix of plazas and infills, but several-most notably the Schouwburgplein in Rotterdam-are over-designed, require a higher level of maintenance than the city is able to provide, and fail the test of usability.
