Summary: A Room of Her Own
Review: Absolutely fabulous!! A great gift for women

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a reader in CA
Review: Although I read a tremendous amount, and purchase many books, I have never written an on-line review - until now. I just needed to let other women know what a very special book this is. Not only are the photographs beautiful, but the stories, and the women are inspirational. I have already begun purchasing copies as birthday gifts for all the women in my life!

Summary: a reader in CA
Review: Although the women in the book have a high status, that shouldn't restrict any woman from having a room of her own. It doesn't take luxurious accomodations to create a room of her own. With some imagination and decorating sense, a woman should be able to create the atmosphere that she wants. I haven't purchased this book but have glanced through it at a furniture store. Yes, these women do have celebrity status, but they are still women. Self-fulfillment is to put yourself first and that is what part of the book is based on.

Summary: It is not an ordinary design book!
Review: I found this book under the category of interior design and I purchased this book for getting some ideas for my bedroom design. But what it presents is much more than any design book can offer! While it is true that the book does not contain many "ordinary women" profiles, it also shows that extraordinary women, no matter where they live, what their life styles or goals are, they are extraordinary because the way they viewed their lives and cherished their personal spaces.

Summary: I like it
Review: I have enough of the ordinary in my life. These women have already inspired me with their work; this book allows me to glimpse something more intimate about them. It is because the women who created these spaces are so gifted that I care about them - this is another opportunity to draw inspiration from their example.

Summary: Acknowledge your need for a haven!
Review: Not what a 'typical' decorating book is but it was a wonderful book. If you are looking for a decorating book, it will give you ideas, but it is much more than that. This book is a look into other womens lives and personal spaces. It gives you ideas for your own personal space by showing you what some have done. Creativity is in all of us. The ideas and examples given in this book are fantastic. Your creativity will flow after reading this book and looking at all of the beautiful pictures.

Summary: Only a practical guide if you're wealthy
Review: The book was well-written and the photos were lovely. I was disappointed, however, to find that the lives of ordinary women with ordinary incomes were not covered. Most of the women are famous in some way and are quite well off financially. I'd like to see Alexandra Stoddard do a similar book. I think it would be more down to Earth.

Summary: This book left me cold
Review: This book left me cold. I was looking for ideas my husband and I could use but found only stories about other people. The book kept me at arm's length. I guess I am not that interested in stories of these particular people but had hoped that the author would talk to ME about what I could do my in OWN home. A waste of my money.

Summary: A Room of My Own
Review: Wonderful book! A friend of mine loaned me her copy, but I had to go out and buy one for myself. Beautiful photography and inside stories about women who were brave enough to carve out their own space and call it that, "Mine!'. Many women I know would love to find the courage to do this, but don't. We all need a little corner to call our very own. I have one now thanks to Ms. Casson Madden. I'm surrounded by items which inspire and motivate me to do, think, and be my best.
