Summary: ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND ********** 10 stars!
Review: Karen Taylor's book is the only one of its kind. Written by a leading forensic artist, it is the definitive resource guide for a beginner or for an established forensic artist. It is articulate, concise and reader friendly. The step by step instructions, organization, and physical dimensions make it a perfect and practical guide book to have by your side as your working. (It's one of those rare books that will become beautifully worn and sensitively soiled as time goes on.)
Ms.Taylor's years of excellence in forensic art education are evident in this book, she covers ever aspect of the field with information that includes: the history of forensic art, facial anatomy, numerous case study examples, detailed instructions, and important issues of professional ethics and standards. Integral to this work is the section with Betty Pat Gatliffs expertise in the area of three dimensional reconstruction. The illustrations and photographs are interesting, well considered, and extremely useful.

I highly recommend this book.

Summary: A Very Important and Excellent Book.
Review: I cannot extol this book enough! I have learned more from this book than I have from all the art classes I have ever taken. Karen Taylor's knowledge in this field is beyond belief. She does an excellent job of explaining the technical and artistic information of this field as if she were standing next to you explaining it in person. I thank her for caring so much about the victims that she so unselfishly shared her years of experience with us to make us better artists. Although she has spent many years drawing the faces of the scum of the earth, this book is not an "I" or a "ME" book. It is a book we have needed for many years. Also, I appreciate that she included the unmatched knowledge and experience of Betty Pat Gatliff in the chapters on facial reconstruction.
If you're serious about helping the victim - YOU CAN NOT DO IT WITHOUT THIS BOOK!

Review: What a special help this book has been for an area of study which has been so devoid of written material!! All of it invaluable as a resource for the practicing forensic artist or
anyone interested in the field. This type of material makes a
real contribution to what we need and can benefit from. It would be wonderful to have more written material like to this
from which all the forensic artists can exchange and assist each other with!!

Summary: THE forensic artist's textbook
Review: The reviews of Karen's book reads like a "whos who" of top forensic artists in this nation. That alone should indicate the respect and admiration other professional forensic artists feel for this outstanding textbook of our profession.

Our company is probably the largest trainers of forensic artists in the nation. This is the core of the information every forensic artist should know. This book is an absolute must for every forensic artist's bookshelf--and for anyone interested in this field.

Karen Taylor and Betty Pat Gatliff are without a doubt two of the most highly respected authorities in this field today. Make no mistakes about any other publication or book being offered by the popular press in the field of forensic art, this is REAL information and FACTS, not a work of fiction.

Summary: Dog-eared and Dirty
Review: This best describes the condition of my copy of Karen Taylor's book. Karen Taylor is clearly a talented, knowledgeable artist and a gifted author. I have found her book to be an extremely valuable source of information on all facets of forensic art. I found it to be fascinating reading my first time through it, and it has a permanent place within arm's reach on my desk.

As a seasoned investigator, I entered the forensic art field with a limited understanding of its depth or its potential. As I read this book, I gained a thorough understanding of the history, applications and the importance of this important field of forensic science. "Forensic Art and Illustration" has been an excellent companion to the training I have received, and continues to fuel my enthusiasm for this profession.

Summary: superlative
Review: I've read the reviews for this book by all the illustrious artists, anthropologists, and doctors. Not one person has any negative comments. I'm a beat cop with only 3 years experience as a forensic artist, and I concur with all they say. I bought the book in January 2001 after a detective in my agency showed me a mass-mailing from CRC Press about the book. When it arrived, I read it in 2 days. I was so impressed that I looked up Karen Taylor on the web and found out about her classes in Scottsdale. I attended her class there and have since attended the class she co-teaches at the FBI academy. Karen's an excellent teacher. If you can't get to her class, buy her book. It thoroughly covers every issue I can think of facing forensic artists, including interviewing, ethics, media, and court. Karen goes to great pains to teach the methods that she's developed over years of experience and that have been successful for her. She is quick to note that the artist is not a doctor and should not attempt to do a reconstruction without a forensic anthropologist. The art and the science work hand in hand, as Karen clearly states. Karen is known all over the world for her knowledge and skill in this field. Believe the reviews.

Summary: Forensic Art...
Review: Having recently read Karen Taylor's book, "Forensic Art" in preparation for studying with the author, I found it to be an extraordinarily concise and helpful guide in my efforts to understand this field of research. Not overly complicated or too simple, Ms. Taylor finds the exact balance of effective teaching. By way of understatement, this book is an absolutely invaluable tool to the Forensic Artist or to those who would like to enter this fascinating world.

The vast amount of experience of Ms. Taylor in providing the visual means of identifying the unkown is apparent as one reads this book. Amazingly, she is able to demystify the complexities of such work by a step by step approach based in common sense and by an internal drive to learn the truth.

I highly reccommend this book. I only wish that I could give it a rating of TEN stars!
