Rating: Summary: Forensic Art and Illustration Review: I have been a police officer for about twenty years. During the past twenty years, I have read and studied a plethora of material relating to my duties and I can honestly say that I have never had the pleasure of reading a text book that can compare to "Forensic Art and Illustration. I have always had a passion for art and about two years ago, I was given the opportunity to become a Forensic Artist. I was fortunate to have been mentored by Sergeant Will Beechinor of the Austin Police Department. Sergeant Beechinor's advice was to purchase "Forensic Art and Illustration," by Karen T. Taylor. I purchased the book and once I began reading it, I found it near impossible to put down. "Forensic Art and Illustration," is without a doubt an essential tool for the Forensic Artist. Karen T. Taylor is not only an amazing artist, but an amazing person. Karen's book reflects her passion for forensic art as well as her undying dedication to the forensic art field. "Forensic Art and Illustration" is not an ordinary text. This book is the only book of it's kind. Karen T. Taylor's tenacity for detail is unequivocal. Karen T. Taylor included instruction for the many different aspects of forensic art and relayed it in such a way that anyone, whether artist or not, can understand and apply the techinques. Rating: Summary: A ONE OF A KIND GIFT FROM A TRUE PROFESSIONAL Review: AFTER HAVING KAREN TAYLOR AS ONE OF MY INSTRUCTORS AT A FORENSIC ART SEMINAR I ATTENDED IN 1998 I EAGERLY AWAITED THE PUBLICATION OF HER BOOK. IT IS A GIFT FROM KAREN TO ALL FORENSIC ARTISTS. SHE HAS SHARED ALL HER KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITH US. IT IS ESPECIALLY USEFUL TO FORENSIC ARTIST LIKE MYSELF WHO DO NOT GET TO WORK ON MORE THAN A DOZEN OR SO CASES A YEAR. I READ AND REREAD THE CHAPTER ON TESTIFING IN COURT BEFORE TESTIFING IN COURT FOR THE FIRST TIME ABOUT ONE OF MY DRAWINGS. EVERY CHAPTER IS FULL OF PERTINENT INFORMATION. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN BECOMING A BETTER ARTIST.
Rating: Summary: A must have ! Review: Karen Taylor's book had only just arrived and been on my desk for a couple of days, when a new case, involving the remains of a young unidentified girl, presented itself. Going through the book I was immediately able to pick up a number of excellent suggestions of how best to handle the remains in order to improve the chance of identifying them. But such practical solutions are not all this book is offering. Karen's attitude toward her work is highly professional, including aspects of behavioral science and a great sense of care and respect toward victims and their families. Another reviewer has called this book The Bible on Forensic Art and I couldn't agree more. A must have for law enforcement officers who regularly deal with serious crime, homicides, missing person cases and unidentified victims.

It has taught me so much more about faces! I feel my drawing has improved because of the instructions in her book! Rating: Summary: The only book of its kind on the market today. Review: This book is a "must read" for anyone intersted in the sculpture, contours, and aging of the human face. Ms. Taylor offers not only the mechanical skills necessary for recreation and identification, but also teaches the subtle skills and nuances that make each face individual. The case studies were particularly interesting and she also outlines how to conduct a successful interview. This book would be a bargain at twice its cost because the information contained within its covers is priceless!
