Summary: THE VALUE OF A GOOD TEACHER
Review: BEFORE THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN THERE WERE ARTISTS WHO TRIED TO MAKE FORENSIC ART A SOLO CAREER. MS. TAYLOR SHARED HER TALENT TO DRAW AND TEACH WITH SO MANY PEOPLE. SHE IS TRULY A HERO. SHE TEACHES OTHER ARTISTS WHAT SHE KNOWS AND LETS THEM TAKE IT FROM THERE, ALWAYS BEING AVAILABLE. IF THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP ANYTHING IS TO LET IT GO, THEN KAREN WILL BE REMEMBERED, AND READ, BY GENERATIONS. SHE AND BETTY PAT. GATLIFF ARE TREASURES TO US ALL. MODERN MASTERS!

Review: I am a forensic artist and police officer in south Texas. I first read Karen's book at the FBI academy in Quantico, Va. I absolutely loved the book and use it on a regular basis. I am continually refering to one chapter or another. Karen is extremely knowledgeable and well written. The book will guide everyone through all parts of forensic art from a beginner to a seasoned veteran. This book has something for everybody. Top notch work! If the FBI uses it, it must be acurate!

Summary: The Practical Forensic Illustrators Bible!
Review: I am a 26 year old, visual artist. I bought this book because I was interested in seeing if I could create a digital, non-evasive forensic methodology. After reading through this book, I was able to develop a digital technique and create a photo-realistic forensic illustration!

This book is very practical. It actually walks you through the steps necessary to create finished images. After having read this book, you should be able to start making images and helping identify people!

The book is well researched, has excellent footnotes, references, color photos, techniques on 2d & 3d illustrations and great information on forensic sciences.

It is well worth the money.

Summary: Forensic Art and Illustration
Review: Over the years, I have read many text books. This is by far the most completely and directly written material. It moves the reader through the different topics with a logic that makes this book incredably easy to read and understand, even though the material is complex. The author explains that the art of sketching is important. But she also explains that the information gathering process is the key to this work. She guides the reader into understanding the emotional condition of the victim or witness who has experienced the trauma of the situation. Getting the right information from these individuals in an understandable way is the real art.

Summary: A must have for any composite artist.
Review: This book is by far the most comprehensive and complete collection of material on the world of composite art. From basic drawing styles and skills, to interviews, to facial reconstruction, Karen Taylor has it all here.

For anyone working as a composite artist, or if there's simply an interest....this book is a "gotta have it"!

Summary: THANK YOU, THANK YOU--- LONG OVERDUE!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I have been a forensic artist for the Michigan State Police for over ten years, and this is the BEST book I have ever read in the field of forensic art and illustration!!! This is the only current, detailed, hands-on, training guide I know of in the field of police art, and I guarantee no one will find a book like it at this time. It is obvious the author, Ms. Karen Taylor, took great pains to compile the various methods and examples shared throughout the book. It's the only attempt I've seen to standardize the various methods used today and to explain the methods in such an easy-to-read, yet detailed, exploratory fashion. It should be noted how difficult it must have been for the author to obtain legal permission to print the photographs and pictures in the book, thus showing her own very selfless and genuine regard for identifying victims and unknown people. Forensic art is still a very new and multifaceted profession in the world of police identification. The book addresses so many of the unexpected challenges a police artist may incur, that I STRONGLY recommend anyone working in the field, new or veteran, to purchase the book. This would also be an excellent tool or reference for those interested in pursuing such a challenging, but rewarding, profession. The book is
EXCELLENT!!!

Summary: Towards standardization
Review: It is with utmost sincerity and enthusiasm that I recommend this book to all those interested in identification techniques using forensic art. The world is very lucky indeed to have someone like Karen Taylor take on the daunting task of writing a textbook on this subject. She has succeeded in giving the reader a complete work- and it is guaranteed to become the standard in the industry. Standardization in forensic art techniques is Ms. Taylor's admirable goal. She expresses a deep sensitivity to the victim of crime and she continualy emphasizes the importance of good interview technique. There is a sincerity in this work that lifts the reader. She enthusiastically expounds on the importance of continous study. The text is a lovely size and has a friendly feel. This is not a light subject, but Karen Taylor fills it with light.

Summary: Dead On!
Review: If you ever had a question concerning forensic art, you answer is in this book. There simply is nothing out there like it. It is THE textbook on the subject. So, if you can't get to the limited classes, you can actually teach yourself step by step with this book. And when you do take the classes, it is indispensable! Whoever said it was the Bible of forensic art really said it all.
