Summary: If you're planning a small barn, you need this book.
Review: No one knows more about small barns than Craig Wallin. He builds beautiful little barns and country homes in Washington state. The structures that he designs for Homestead Design, Inc. have been built all across the US and Canada. Here, he gives you a step-by-step guide to planning and building the perfect storage barn, workshop, horse barn or country garage for your place. He gives good, practical, no-nonsense advice on determining the space you need, building and property plans, getting permits, finding good contractors at fair prices, and on do-it-yourself building. This book is packed with plans, details and great ideas. I learned a lot from this book. You will too!

Summary: not necessarily what the cover says...
Review: The cover bills it as 'complete' plans for 12 different barns- actually, to get complete plans that would be needed to get building permit do construction or buy materials, you have to order a set form the authors website. The book has nice practical ideas about working with subcontactors, and the designs and sources are quite useful.

Summary: Practical advice for your project
Review: This is a well-written, very practical guide to the entire process of building a barn (which, by the way, can also be applied to any building project). For people like me who have little experience in this area, it has great planning tools for managing the project while avoiding the common pitfalls of working with contractors and building material suppliers. You can use this book whether you are doing most or all of the building yourself ... or intelligently contracting the work out. Great tips for saving money and very useful planning forms. Also lots of resources for other information you may need to customize your barn for your specific needs. Easy-to-use format.

Review: We've sought advice on building structures for horses serveral times. This is the first book that covers design options, materials, project budgeting and handling a contractor for the do-it-yourself-er or the owner/supervisor. It is a terrific resource for horse owners.
