Rating: Summary: Can you say style! It's both Dreamy and Charming! Review: As soon as I saw the cover of this book - I had to biu it. The color pallette that Rachel Ashwell is using is soo incredibly soothing to the eye. I love the feeling I get when I open up this book and the way she expresses herself through color and fabrics!
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointed Review: Browsing the free pages shown on Amazon I thought I was going to get a book with lots of Photos of "shabby" style furniture and tips on how to get the look.Instead what I got was a book that reads like a 'day in the life of' story.I didnt want a biography. This book takes you along on the authors trips to assorted flea markets and whatnot and tells you what she bought and where she is going to use it.Not at all what I expected to get.
Rating: Summary: I'm workin' toward this house... Review: Except, mine will be on the Indiana or Illinois coast of Lake Michigan. I love Rachel Ashwell's frugal, classy style. She gives you a truck load of inspiration and understands empowering people to design, no matter if they are wealthy or shopping in ritzy alleys or at estate sales for goods. The results create sentimental elegance. If nothing else, you learn the power of white paint and good hard do it yourselfing. This book takes you there and Rachel does an excellent job of pulling you into her home. She leaves nothing out and the photographer deserves enormous credit. Buy it or check it out at the library today.

Rating: Summary: Dream Home Review: Fans of the Shabby Chic look will love Ashwell's third book. It is perhaps her most visually beautiful book and includes exceptionally lovely photographs by Amy Neunsinger. In The Shabby Chic Home Rachel shows how she transformed a dark, gloomy house with good bones into an amazing tranquil, light, inviting haven for her children and herself. She also shares the evolution of her style: the trademark pale greens, soft pinks, and the abundance of white are ever present but she has infused some subtle, upbeat Caribbean influences - touches of soft turquoise and deep pink, functional mosquito netting, and a few fresh, happy new fabric patterns. A focal point of this home is the lush garden dripping with honeysuckle, wisteria, and of course roses. Shabby Chic enthusiasts will enjoy seeing how Ashwell has created outdoor living areas with her profusion of linens - welcoming spots for napping and for play. Rachel's bedroom is a Shabby Chic dream room - airy, light, and romantic with slightly rustic beamed ceilings, it is a room where children are welcome and it is used for living throughout the day. As a whole the home is simple, modest, pretty, and dreamy. Readers who liked the original Shabby Chic book but were disappointed with "Treasure Hunting" will appreciate the latest work.
Rating: Summary: Rachel has done it again! Review: Function, Beauty and Home Design....Rachel Ashwell's thrid book is the best! They say Three's a Charm and it is. In this book, more personal then the rest, Rachel shares with us the restoration of her Malibu home (often featured on the show Shabby Chic) See how she took "drab to fab!" I own it and let me tell you it was worth every penny!

Rating: Summary: BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS/LITTLE SUBSTANCE-NOT WORTH THE PRICE Review: I am a fan of Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic program. I tune in every week to get ideas and inspiration as I continue to re-do my own little house. However lovely the photos may be in this book (she turned a gloomy place into a sunny oasis) the kind of written text she offers can be found in an article from Better Homes & Gardens, or other home design magazine. It was quite dissapointing. Her home now has light airy feel to it in general, however, Ms. Ashwell advocates some rather weird ideas, such as choosing her make-up products for their packaging (so that they fit in with the decor!). What's up with that? This is just one example of some of the impractical advise in this book. I will keep the book because the photos are lovely and have provided me with inspiration for my own plans, however few. Ms. Ashwell' home looks lovely but does not look like a place the average person would have as a primary home (the walls are wooden planks!). This looks more like a vacation cabin than a primary residence. If you like coffee-table books with lots of beatiful photos, then buy this, if not buy a home design magazine at the newstand and save some bucks.
Rating: Summary: Rachel Ashwell Does It Again Review: I could hardly wait for Rachel's newest book to come out, so I preordered it. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every page of it. The pictures are great and just enough words are used to describe the effect Rachel is going for. Some decorators like to hear themselves talk so much, that you get bored. Reading this book is just like being invited into Rachel's home. She shows you how to decorate with inexpensive things that anyone can follow. Congratulations, Rachel, another great book!
Rating: Summary: sHABBY cHIC tREASURE HUNTING Review: I FOUND THIS BOOK VERY HELPFUL AND INSPIRING. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING A VACATION HOME & I ALSO NEED TO START LOOKNG FOR NEW FURNITURE FOR MY SON. AFTER READING THIS BOOK I AM INSPIRED TO GO TREASURE HUNTING AT THE LOCAL FLEA MARKETS INSTEAD OF BUYING EXPENSIVE, MASS PRODUCED FURNITURE THAT I WOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. THIS BOOK IS WONDERFULLY INSPIRING & IM GLAD I FOUND IT! THANK YOU!
