Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire for Designers by Sham Tickoo Review: This book is definitely helpful (would you believe essential) in learning Pro/engineer Wildfire. It achieves a good balance between reference material and tutorial examples (as compared to Lamit's books which are mostly tutorial with CadTrain screen prints and step by step instructions, but with a good index).
Explaining any major software package really requires two books. This book is a good first book and it also covers some of the more advanced 3D modeling topics that you would expect in a second book. The examples of dimensioning and annotating 2D drawings are simplistic educational ones and not of the level used in industrial design drawings going to a machine shop to be fabricated.
The index is inexcusably incomplete. Key words like: note, layer, view, orientation, hide, shading and colors are missing from it. I find the topics that should be indexed by going to the most likely chapter and looking at every page for them. As hokey as that sounds it actually works fairly well. The help files with Pro/Engineer fill in most of the pieces that are missing from this book and they have an excellent search engine.
In the creating cross sectional views tutorial on page 10-24, I found one frustrating mistake in instruction step 11, which should read, "Choose the create 2 point lines from the sketch view pulldown sketch menu and draw the lines ..."
The bottom line is that this book will definitely assist you in learning Pro/Engineer Wildfire. Although count on the many hours of struggle and frustration that are required to learn any major software tool. I don't think any book or approach will ever change that.

I bought a book from Roger which is MUCH better. I wanted to use this book, "Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire for Designers" by Sham to teach Pro/E Wildfire to my students. I decided not to. I am now using Roger's book which is much better! My students can understand the book, and so can I.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: You will definitely learn Pro/E Wildfire easily! Review: This book is probably best suited for Intermediate level Pro/E Wildfire users who are looking for ways to improve their productivity. This is a 700+ page book that is very illustrative inside and has a killer tip per page. If you tried to learn these productivity and usage tips on your own without this book, you could spend at least an hour on each tip and still miss quite a few tips. This book will eliminate 1-2 years from your learning curve and save you hundreds of hours that can be spent on doing more projects. Here's an example of how valuable the book is- if your client needs drawings of a product along with the BOM and title block then you will have to search for another book that discuss Drawing mode of Pro/E. Do you know how NOT to lose your work? This book alone saved me a lot of time when it happened to me (given enough time, it will definitely happen to all users). Not only the Drawing mode, using this book you can learn other modes of Pro/E that are helpful in completly designing a product. The book covers, Sketch, Part, Drawing, Assembly, Format, Report modes of Pro/E Wildfire. The chapter on Surface modeling is also available on the Author's website. If you want some sample chapters then visit www.cadcim.com. This book is full of tutorials that you can practice. The best part of the tutorials is that while working on the tutorial you can never get stuck in the middle of the tutorial. If you have started a tutorial then there are 100% chances that you will be able to complete it. I have not found this quality of a book in any of the other books available on Pro/E Wildfire. The best part about the book is that you can open the book on any page and learn something new for the day. If you spend a lot of time designing, you won't regret completing a tutorial per day and in the process benefit tremendously from the time spent with the book. The price is not too bad either so don't hesitate to buy this book. Enjoy the tutorials and exercises in the book!!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Must consult this book Review: This book was well put together and really describes Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire in a complete and thorough way. There are many Pro/E books out there, so it is hard to choose one. But this one just seems better than the rest. Although much of the commands in Pro/E have already been revealed by the magazines and free stuff, this book adds depth and better credibility. I would recommend this book to any Pro/E user out there. I would consider it a valuable book to any Pro/E collection as well.

The approach adopted by the author makes the Pro/E software easy to learn. There are so many solved tutorials in the book that i learned solid modeling very easily and without any trouble. The book covers all the major and widely used commands. These commands are explained using graphics and pictures. The tech support provided by the author is efficient. I contacted him when i was having trouble to install wildfire on my pc. My query was replied within 24 hrs. Thanks again to the author.I recommend this book to all ProE users.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Thanks for providing such a great book on Pro/E Review: This is the best book on Pro/E I have ever read. 700+ of pages of intelligent descriptions and tutorials. First you learn the part modeling, then you dive into chapters that cover a specific realms like Drawing, Assembly, Surface modeling, and a lot more. As big as the book is, it does not cover everything and I dont think any book could. Hopefully the author comes up with a volumn II book that covers Pro/NC, Pro/MECHANICA, and more. If you have Pro/E 2001 experience then you will adjust real quickly because this book flows the text very easily. In fact there are alot of tutorials side-by-side exercises. As a bonus the book comes with lot of teaching and learning aids. These are all available on the author's website www.cadcim.com.
