Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: An essential book - but not the only book to pass the exam Review: Hi,This book is good from exam point of view. The cost of others calling this "great" is probably $1000+ for some 3-day classroom courses either with Rita or with cheetahlearning etc. Passing the exam only with the help of this book is impossible. This book covers the key points for the exam. This book keeps reading more interesting and easier. But number of practice questions are very less (only 30 questions from each chapter. Passing only with this book is impossible. The highlight of Rita's book is the time and cost chapter - she has done a great job in those two topics. Remember PMBOK IS the bible. Other book that you might want to consider is from ESI. I bought their practice exam guide. When you compare Rita's book with ESI's practice exam guide, ESI has 40 questions on each topic and one set of 200 questions exam as in the real exam. ALL of ESI's questions are directly from PMBOK. Believe me they are hard to answer. If someone scores over 75% in ESI's practice exam, they will score 80% in the actual exam. From my friends' circle, all who passed the exam - including me - either attended an expensive course or bought an expensive CD for practice exam. I bought Rita's PM Fastrack - very expensive one - VERY USEFUL. Lot of PMBOK study+PM Fastrack = my success. Hope this helps
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Not suitable and not enough value for self-study Review: This book cannot do it alone. Don't you get the impressions that all these rave reviews are fake plants from people who have taken her $1,100 prep course. All these reviews would have you believe that this book alone will get you ready for the exam. This book has enough errors and ommisions so that you'd be folled into thinking you are ready to take the exam when you are not ready to pass it. If you want this book, do youself a favor and take Rita's course where you get this book for free. I'd recommend a better value is that you buy Pete's PMP Cert For Dummies and Kim's PMP Study Guide instead.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: definitely helpful Review: I took the exam couple of days ago and passed. My main resources were PMBOK and this book. PMPExam Prep had some very valuable information that was very handy in the exam. The prep questions are also comparable to the ones in the exam. I strongly suggest it if price is not a concern. Good luck.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A bit of overkill Review: I used this book to take and pass the PMP (score 171), but I found the questions to be much harder than those on the test. The test questions were much more straight forward than the examples Rita gave. I think a number of test preparers prey on people's fears of the test to sell them materials.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Not as good as others Review: I used three books for examp prep, this was the least useful of the bunch. I don't believe I could have passed the exam with only this text or that this study guide affected my score. There are better materials on the web that cost about half as much. Go with the Sybex book. I agree with the other reviewer that the reviews here seem staged.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: PMP Exam Prep Review Review: Outstanding coverage, direction, emphasis when you consider the total scope of the exam. I found the situational emphasis/questions to be superb in preparation for the real thing. If there were any shortcomings, it may be in the area of prep for the calculations/diagramming techniques/scenarios. I put in a great deal of studying time and give credit to this book for assisting me in passing the PMP, first time!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: This book helped me clear the PMP Exam Review: This book complements the PMBOK and is good reference for passing the PMP Exam. The practice questions at the end of each topic definitely reinforce the understanding. This book can certainly do with some improvements. I am not too thrilled with the way the material has been laid out on this book. A thorough proof reading will definitely make it better. I do not know how the 4th edition has shaped up. Overall, this book is good and it helped me clear the exam with a high percentage.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Must for PMP Exam Prep Review: If you are prepping for the PMP exam, this book is a must. This self-contained course explains the PMI certification process, offers exam-taking tips and focuses your attention on key project management concepts. Written to save you preparation time, the book: • Helps you identify potential problem areas in your knowledge. • Review topics not covered in the PMBOK. • Become acquainted with what the author calls "PMI-isms." • Prepares you for sitting through a four hour exam. • Acquaints you with the type of questions that appear on the exam. Make no mistake; the exam is much harder than the questions that appear in this guide. However, the time spent reviewing Mulcahy's material will focus your attention on material appearing on the exam. It will also broaden your approach to project management from your personal, narrow experience to the broad-based approach tested on the exam. If you are serious about passing, this book is well-worth the money.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Representative of the exam Review: I was not crazy about this book, but I have to admit it was very representative of the exam. The study guide portion of each topic was a useful summary. My main problem with the book (and the PMP exam) is that too many of the questions were overly subjective and depend on the particular organizational context. It would have been more beneficial to have even more discussion of the answers, especially when choosing between the best of several correct answers.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Not recommended as a project management book Review: The problem with the Exam Prep guide is that it an useful book (like any other popular guides/courses in the market) only for taking the PMP exam. The method adopted in the book is crude. It may be useful for a mediocre reader. There are quite lot of assumptions and mistakes in the content of the book and these can be pointed out by experts of the specific nine knowlege areas. Not considering the exam point of view, this book rather dilutes the intent of the PMBOK. PMBOK is a wonderfully compiled material that binds project management into a more exact science.
