Rating: Summary: 2 Books Addressing Infants, Toddler & Preschool Behavior Review: I am deeply saddened by Tracy's untimely death just a few months ago. It is comforting to keep in mind that her knowledge and advice in her books and videos will continue to guide parents in a positive direction.
Tracy had the "know-how" of calming even the most challenging infant, because she really seemed to understand their language. Because she offered strategies based on the personality of the parents as well as the temperament and personality of the baby, she offers quizes in this book to help parents identify which intervention plan would work best. Believing that babies need to become part of the family - rather than dominate it - Tracy has developed a practical program that parents can begin using at one day old.
My only criticism of this book is that there was not enough information relating to specific challenging behaviors of my 3- year-old. The title implies that this book covers issues through age 3. I found the majority of the book addresses a variety of issues focusing on babies under 2.
If you have a 2, 3, 4, or 5-year-old, I wish to recommend an A-Z pocket-sized guide I discovered in my pediatrician's office called "The Pocket Parent." This book is written entirely for parents with 2-6 year olds and offers hundreds of suggestions that focus on stopping toddler/preschooler behaviors that can drive you close to your wit's end such as bad words, biting, tantrums, sibling fights, the gimmes, morning crazies, power struggles, lying and whining. Both books address what to do in the heat of the moment as well as how to make a plan to prevent the same behavior from happening again; I found that insight very helpful. Both "THE BABY WHISPERER SOLVES ALL YOUR PROBLEMS" and "THE POCKET PARENT" are excellent additions to your home reference library.
COMPLIMENTARY RECOMMENDATION for the next age group (2- to 5-year-olds)
THE POCKET PARENT: Hundreds of fast answers
Rating: Summary: The Baby Whisperer's techniques really work Review: I have been a big fan of The Baby Whisperer since I read and tried the techniques of the first Baby Whisperer book: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby. Tracy has a practical approach that is easy to follow so you can learn what your baby is trying to tell you.
Our little one slept through the night for the first time at 3 months thanks to this book. I learned how to put the baby down for naps before he was asleep and now he is an independent sleeper. I never once let him cry it out in his crib. The pick up put down approach really works you just have to be consistent.
I would recommend this book to any parent who wants to prevent accidental parenting which can lead to chronic problems with: sleeping, schedules, feeding and tons of other things.
Tracy's techniques really work and have made parenting for me the ulitmate joy and experience. Buy the book; you won't be sorry.
Rating: Summary: Finally something that works! Review: If you've read Tracy's first book and thought, "how different could this one be?" IT IS. The techniques such as pick up/put down are described in more detail and divided into age groups with case studies for each. Defining problems with the technique and why it won't work and changes to it so it will. My 9 month old has NEVER slept through the night, until last night.(almost 11 hours) We have been strictly doing her schedule for the last 1 1/2 weeks for bedtime and naps. Stick with it. Where the first book leaves you guessing as to what to do if....... this one fills in the blanks. It also includes helpful information on development and how it relates to sleeping, eating and prop problems. We had it all and it really seems to be getting better.
The only disappointment was no acknowledgement of the passing of Tracy Hogg. This was a woman who dedicated herself to helping parents everywhere ( we have friends in Brazil who swear by her methods) and you can't find a word about it even on the bookjacket. Publishers should be more sensitive and readers should be informed.
Rating: Summary: Embrace The Child You Gave Birth To Review: Tracy's book is truly a lifesaver. Just a few weeks after bringing our baby home, I was ready to send her back. Constantly crying and downright mad, she was difficult to mother. I called our pediatrician over and over, positive she had acid reflux that was causing all of her misery. "What type of schedule is she on?" he asked. "Well, none" I replied. He recommended this book and since taking Tracy's advice to heart, we now have the happy, loving baby of our dreams. Our sweet little baby just needed parents who knew what to do, and we did not, until we read this book. Her acid reflux symptoms disappeared after just a few days after starting the E.A.S.Y. program. This book is excellent for first time parents who are looking for guidance. I wish I had read this before our baby was born. I recommended this book to a friend, who has implemented Tracy's techniques with the same success I had. I was deeply saddened to hear of Tracy's death, her teachings are an amazing gift, and we will treasure and share them for years to come.
