Rating: Summary: What a Relief! Review: As a 50+ father of a soon to be three year old, I was beginning to get a bit nervous about certain peculiar behaviors of our little princess. Just a short trip through the table of contents of Ms. Murphy's delightful book reassured me that our toddlerette's oddities of behavior were, indeed, normal - though we still may have some fodder for Volume II. Paranoia now firmly in check, I could then revel in amusement as Jana, backed up by a remarkable team of experts, unravelled each behavioral mystery. If you know someone with a toddler, or soon to be toddler, this would be a fine present. Or, donate one to your local pre-school!
Rating: Summary: A parent of toddlers Review: As the parent of two toddlers I truly appreciated Jana Murphy's insite and humor. On the sometimes frustrating journey from years 1-3 every parent needs a little reassurance as well as a good laugh--this definitely provides both! It is the best parenting manual I own and would recommend it to new and seasoned parents alike!
Rating: Summary: Decode The Wonderful World Of Toddlers Review: I am a proud parent, veteran veterinarian and someone who loves young children. My late father, Bob Becker, always told me to "never forget to be curious," to dig beneath the surface and "see how things really worked." As such, I've had a lifelong fascination with what makes puppies, kittens, and yes, toddlers work.
Jana Murphy's book, The Secret Lives of Toddlers,is a wonderful dichotomy that cracks the code on the wild and whacky behaviors of toddlers that leave us scratching our heads, wiping tears of laughter and joy from our eyes, keep us up at night worrying, and cause us to take hundreds of kiddy pictures documenting behaviors that few understand. Until now.
I'm living life in fast forward, stuck in fifth gear, but this book was so interesting and engaging, I read this book in a single sitting. The Secret Lives of Toddlers is authoratative yet easy to understand, warm and witty, informational but entertaining.
What I love most about this book is that it focuses on "explaining" and "enjoying" these unique toddler behaviors rather trying to give parents tips to "tame" or "train" the behaviors out of their kids.
Forget the cute animal style pajamas with furry feet and ears on the hood or the obligatory blanket. My wife Teresa and I ordered a stockpile of these books and will give them out to every proud new parent in our network.
With a new level of understanding and appreciation for their new toddler, The Secret Lives of Toddlers will help parent, grandparent, family and friends meet the "little person" on a richer, deeper level.
I'm an author of several books including several Chicken Soup for the Soup pet books, and I couldn't give The Secret Lives of Toddlers a higher rating.
Rating: Summary: Secret Lives of Toddlers is for grandmas too--love it Review: I am from the Dr. Spock generation and the grandma of ten. I want to say that I find this informative book to be the best I have ever read when it comes to toddler behavior and what to do about it. The bonus is that Jana Murphy's writing style makes the book just plain fun to read! It is a real winner in my opinion. The perfect book for any young parent or not so young grandparent!!
Rating: Summary: Great book: fun, smart and practical Review: I read an excerpt from this book in Redbook and bought it on its first day. You can tell Jana Murphy really understands toddlers and did her homework for every chapter. The style is funny and honest and the book is full of suggestions you can really use.
Rating: Summary: Fun AND interesting Review: Jana Murphy brings wit and wisdom to the endlessly baffling behavior of toddlers. If you want great advice from a mom who's been there, this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Informatve Read and fun! Review: Where oh where was this informative, outstanding book when my children were toddlers? Think of something you want to know why your toddler is doing it. Got it? Ok, now go to this book and your answer will be there.
With 52 common behavior antics of toddlers listed in this outstanding work you will be delighted to finally understand such mysteries as, why do they love to be naked? Or how about this one, why do toddlers say, no! no! no! The answer may surprise you.
This is an outstanding book to help you better understand the toddler in your life.
Not only does the author give you the whys; she also gives you tips on what to do now that you know the whys. This work would be an outstanding reference book for new parents and a great source of enlightment for all who ever wondered why toddlers do the strange little things that we have all seen them do. You'll find out there really was a purpose to their almost driving you mad, and you'll breath a sigh of relief, I promise.
Really a great read. Well done, informative and enjoyable.
