Rating: Summary: A lifesaver and a marriage saver! Review: I bought this book hot off the press but I had little hope a book could help me. I've had years of either feeling guilty about disappointing my husband or being angry with him for being too demanding. After reading this book, I feel neither guilty or angry but hopeful. There is a lot of information about sexual desire that is actually understandable and easy to read (and it helps to know this stuff!). The tips on communication were useful - things I could do right now. But what I found most helpful were the suggestions about what I could do to get the feeling of desire back.Other books gave me the message I just needed to forget that feeling, but I am actually feeling sexual desire again for the first time in years. Read this book. It really helps.
Rating: Summary: grateful husband Review: My wife's on-again, off-again interest in romance had been driving me crazy for the five years of our marriage. Nothing I did seemed to have an impact on her desire for me...she was forever not in the mood. Periodically I'd get on a roll with exercise, doing the grocery shopping, helping more with the kids, making plans for us to have romantic dinners, and sometimes I'd light the candles in the bedroom only to find her disinterested or uncomfortable when she walked in.
I am pleased to report that things have taken a turn for the better since we both read Reclaiming Your Sexual Self. Dr. Hall's insightful comments and anecdotes from her clinical experience helped us to begin a dialog that has brought us to have a better understanding of each other. I have been able to drop my resentments from having been "neglected" by her and I have more compassion for the issues she struggles with. Dr. Hall's book helped to facilitate a dialog that is still ongoing. As a result we are closer than we have been in a long time and that has helped us to rediscovery some of the romantic spark that first drew us together.
Rating: Summary: Finally, a book on low desire that actually helps! Review: The big drug companies are trying sell women all kinds of pills and patches to fix a sex life that isn't working. Do yourself a favor: before taking antidepressants, hormones or running off to therapy, give this book a read. The author doesn't treat low desire like some sort of disease that needs to be cut out. Instead, she encourages you to look at what low desire might be saying, and how to deal with it in meaningful ways. Her approach can help you feel better about yourself and your life. I got a lot from this book and I highly recommend it for women and men.
Rating: Summary: Low sexual desire is not a disease! Review: This book is truly great. My boyfriend and I used to fight about sex a lot. I was convinced there was something wrong with me. After reading this book, I no longer felt like I had some kind of disease. My boyfriend and I read sections together, it was fun to read, very reassuring and I followed many of the suggestions Dr. Hall gave for getting desire back. And they worked! I highly recommend this book to everyone in a relationship - don't wait until the fighting about sex gets bad, read this book now.
